Bad reviews

Too lame, too tame... So far, I've only read bad things about the movie. Even Helge Schneider said he didn't find it very funny. Guess I'll save the money for the cinema ticket.

i just returned from the cinema and i liked it. it's not comparable to other helge schneider movies but still funny. don't expect a helge schneider like in Texas.

reply

Of course not. It's NO Helge Schneider movie. No one expects some Helge jokes. Levy wrote the screenplay, so it's Dani Levy's humour.

By the way: all the critics wrote about the film even before they saw it. Now it's getting quite good reviews since it has been released today. I think, some people just don't understand the movie. It's not its goal to be as funny as a Leslie Nielson movie. It's more a drama/comedy. And it was from the beginning. But many people just judge it as if it wanted to be only a comedy. And that it isn't.

reply

exactly

I think a quite big amount of viewers aren't even enough informed of the historical aspects. They don't really know people like Himmler or Goebbels and that's why they don't get most of the jokes and tell others it's a boring movie. There were especially two scenes in the movie which prooved that to me.

First, when the narrator (Gruenbaum) talks about Hitler's life before he became dictator. He said, that Hitler chose to conquer the world after he failed in the art of painting. Some people laughed their ass off and i bet my eyeballs, that they didn't even knew that Hitler in fact was a painter.

Second, when Goebbels gave his number to the actress on the car outside and told her to call him () and noone laughed just because they didn't know that Goebbels was known for beeing a ladykiller and called the "Buck of Babelsberg", therefore it wasn't funny for most of the viewers.

In conclusion i think that's mostly the problem with this movie. People just don't get it and don't understand the intention and message of it. It's not just a movie about some jew helping Hitler to deliver a speech.

and what about those people that do understand these things but saw those lame jokes coming from a 10 miles distance ? My point is, the ammount of history knowledge you have doesn't matter, because one way or the other, this movie didn't deliver. As a comedy it failed and as a WWII documentary it just sucked.
But hey it is German cinema, what did you expect ?!? ;-)

reply

helge schneider generally says about all his movies that he dislikes them, even those he directed himself

IF PPL WHO MADE MOVIE DONT FIND THEMSELF FUNNY THEY ONLY HAV THEMSELF 2 BLAME

I have seen almost 80% of the movie now, and i wonder if there is any point to continue? As i have not found anything funny in this movie yet. Didint laugh even once. Okey, i tikkled once, when hitler gets f" by his dog. So is the end better or?

If it is the same in the end, then one could ask himself, is this a comedy at all? As an drama it fails terribly, not in the point where you could say the movie is bad, but to the point where it then gets very controversial.

reply

I laughed all the way through the movie. I'm half jewish myself. This is going to be one of my favourite movies.

i am about to watch the movie. i always wanted to see it since the day i saw the trailer on tv. i heard that this movie is awful...which i can not understand since i really liked the trailer. i do not expect tis to be very funny, i am not really fond of german humour.......don't ask me why, i just can't think of more than a handful of german comedians i like and actually find to be funny. helge is one of them and since this is not a helge movie i do not expect his usual humour
