I don't think this was ever meant to be a gutbusting comedy - it's more of a family film, so if you can't cope with safe vanilla material that's suitable for everyone, then it's best not to watch it.
His intent upon being in movies is to make piles of cash for himself, and it seems like he's doing that OK.
... and Pluto Nash wasn't actually that bad; the only reason it got slated as much as it did was because there was already negative buzz about it being shelved and going way over budget, even before it was released... "Pluto Nash" is used as a byword for a bad Eddie Murphy movie, but it's better than the likes of Daddy Day Care, I Spy & Norbit, that's for sure!
