I have never seen it

should I watch it ??

reply

Yes, if you enjoy dark humor. I discovered it by accident one day just channel surfing and really got caught up in it.

The cinematography alone is worth it !

You're welcome. We've been on the same page on other topics which leads me to believe you might enjoy it.

It has been on my radar for awhile - somehow I missed it in 2008.

reply

Definitely, yes! It's fantastic!

thanks

Absolutely. Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson are both excellent in this smart, entertaining film. Martin McDonagh does a fantastic job in directing the film from his sharp and intelligent screenplay. The film is sometimes funny, often surprising, and always interesting. I rate it 9/10.

You probably already watched it by now. I think it's still Martin McDonagh's best work, even over the Oscar winning Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri which I loved. I think his Oscar winning short film Six Shooter might actually be his best film overall, probably his best written film. Even the flawed Seven Psychopaths is very good.

As far as In Bruges goes, When I first saw it I didn't like it. The trailers totally sold a fish out of water comedy about two Irish hitmen, what I got was a darker more downbeat film and I don't think I was in the right mood for it at the time. I felt maybe I should give it a second chance and did and I loved it a lot more and after a few watches it has a place in my top 50 films of all time. It's Colin Farrell probably gives his best performance to date and him and Gleeson have great chemistry, Ralph Fiennes is fantastic as is Brendan Gleeson. First thing I saw Clemence Poesy in too, and she's probably at her hottest here before she got far too skinny for me.

I think the comedy is fantastic, but I think the bleaker undertones as the film go on could put many off and I think it has. It did me when I first watched it. But Overall definitely must see.

I have seen it and enjoyed it.

For a time I was seeing the title often, and just because it sounded Euro exotic I wanted to see it eventually.
What I think especially works is how the setting and the style give it some depth, makes it interesting to watch beyond the actual story. Sort of like The Third Man (1949).
So I'm always intrigued with In Bruges, although perhaps more than it deserves, (as I am heartily sick of the presence of guns being the impetus for so many films).

reply

Boo hoo, ya leftist. Guns were very far from the central story but totally necessary 'cause you know, hit-men often use them and if he didn't, there'd be no movie.
