The absurd and the sincere

McDonagh captures the absurd in a unique way…

Between this movie and Seven Psychopaths he is able to infuse stale genre archetypes with real depth, sincerity and explore the kind of earnest, almost sentimental values and feeling that were the staple of Old Hollywood filmmaking.

He show ups the bland cynicism and apathy of most contemporary films as the lazy knee-jerk, cookie-cutter short cuts that they are… they are what current directors use to mask their lack of perspective, emotional and intellectual depth…

He brings humanity to the screen in a way that is missing from even big movies these days, where even the mythic “SuperHeros” are portrayed as misanthropic losers.

I can't wait for his next movie...
