Why did Ray get all teary eyed at the start?

I hope this hasn't been asked already but. Near the start Ken says: "Ray, I really don't want to say this but,,," "You really don't want to say what?"
"Well, Y'know" Then Ray goes teary eyed and says 'Why would you bring that up?". Why was Ray going teary eyed? did that have something to do with the guy Ray killed before going to Bruges?

Did you see the rest of the film?

Ray spent the whole time feeling guilty about the collateral damage when he botched the hit.
He was even suicidal at one stage!

No, this was before he killed the kid

reply

No, everything in the film was AFTER he killed the kid.

The scene with the kid was a FLASHBACK.

Aww *beep* I can't believe I didn't catch that. I always thought he was just doing a quick hit job in Bruges, cause he didn't seem to torn up about it before the flashback (apart from the scene I mentioned in my first post). Generally after the flashback he seems more torn up about it. I always wondered why the kid wrote in English on his confession paper and why the priest was Irish (But obviously that's why I assumed they knew him). And Ken runs in to take Ray away, and the next scene is them sitting down together talking.
