No way in the world would they mention Indestroy... Lol dont just say them because they are so obscure. They did nothing to influence... They were just another band with 1 good album and seemed to die off Like Aftermath, Mandator, Intrinsic, Bloody Mary and Deathcorp
No matter how good our kung-fu is, it will never defeat guns.
2nd tier bands? still they do mention Testament and Violence and others that werent there. It is called the history of Thrash so it doesnt matter when the bands started out. They even talk about Pantera who clearly werent ther ein the early days (at least not as a thrash band)
Nowhere in the title is the word "influential" mentioned. the title is "get thrashed the HISTORY of thrash metal".
Why didnt they talk about how Thrash came about? No mention of Diamond Head, Venom, Mercyful Fate etc. By mention i mean more than just showing an albumcover like they did.
How'bout Atrophy? Killer band from Arizona. Speaking of Arizona, Flotsam and Jetsam were always overlooked in my book. Yea, they had their share of success but 20 years later they're still remembered mostly as "Jason Newsted's former band" ... that's gotta suck after a while
no one mentioned Whiplash yet??? Power and Pain is one of my favourite thrash releases.
Acid Reign (Uk Speed thrash, best UK thrash) At War (fans of Venom, Celtic Frost) Attomica (fans of Slayer, Exumer) Casbah (Jap thrash; Kreator influenced) Forbidden (classic speedpowerthrash, feat. Paul Bostaph) Ripping Corpse (deathrash from erik rutan of morbid angel/hate eternal) Sarcofago (black death thrash; brazil gods!) Savage Grace (speed power, catchy stuff esp. Master of Disguise) Slaughter (Deathrash, primitive cult Canadian band) Violent Force (Speed thrash; mix of Motorhead and Sodom)
Damn, most of mine are taken, however I see one band seeing no love and that is the unmatched, LAWNMOWER DETH. Xentrix is also one of those old bands that many missed and got little credit. Good to see Exhorder, Forced Entry, Vio-lence, Atrophy, Defiance... great bands that never got the push. Lets not forget Atheist, Cynic, I think someone mentioned Sadus... One of the great underdogs, Scatterbrain, or the lesser known Ludichrist. Just kills me when I think of how many copies of cds by these old bands I used to see in the cheap bin in my local record joint, and now most of them pop for serious cash on ebay. If I wasn't so attached to my collection I might consider selling my personal copies. I can't wait for this dvd, it's about time the thrash scene gets a little somen somen.
Exumer; the first album "Possessed by Fire" is a thrash classic with the title track, 'Fallen Saint' and 'Sorrows of the Judegment' being highlights for anyone looking to download. Second album wasn't too bad either though a little derivative of Slayer.
And how about the mighty Onslaught with "The Force" album especially noteworthy? They cocked things up by replacing their vocalist Sy Keeler and things went rapidly downhill after that but they released a new album not so long ago which is also pretty damn good.
Good to see Vio-lence get a few mentions too...
"It's because of movies like this that illegal downloading exists and you can be bored for free..."
I just seen this DVD "advertised" on VH1's "That Metal Show". (the show kind of sucks. I like Eddie Trunk but his friends are lame and the show tries to be too funny. Metal is not a comedy unless you are Billy Milano or Scatterbrain.)
Gonna see if I can obtain from Netflix (just got done watching my Netflix offering today, Overkill at Wacken!)
Anyway, some bands that I love from the genre that may have not been mentioned: (and sorry if you mentioned them already. That's ok! More exposure!)
Abbatoir Anacrusis Annihilator Coroner Cyclone Temple ("I Hate...Therefore I am" kills. One of my favorites!) Faith or Fear Gothic Slam Hallow's Eve Imagika Heretic Kreator Laaz Rockit Metal Church (their first effort is a classic) Nuclear Assault Pestilence Powermad Realm Rigor Mortis Sacred Reich Suicidal Tendencies ("How Will I Laugh.."i s definitely a thrash calssic!) Vicious Rumors Viking Wrath
1-DBC 1st album - Dead Brain Cells ('87) Perfect mix of hardcore, speed'n'thrash 2nd album - Universe ('89) Technical speed'n'thrash There is no 3rd album, but they released a cd of demos recorded in '90 and '91 Check out www.dbcuniverse.com + myspace 2-Metal Church Classic 1st album ('84) On the other albums, good and not so good stuff, but the drummer, Kirk Arrington, is always a killer 3-Obliveon Check out their 2nd album, Nemesis ('93) Technical space-metal 4-Voïvod Classic band
Onslaught, the awesome band from UK. Power From Hell and The Force are classics. And another band fom the UK Sabbat. History Of A Time To Come kills!
Agree on both counts, especially about Sabbat. History of a Time to Come and Dreamweaver are thrash masterpieces. Martin Walkyier has got to be one of, if not the best lyricist in all of metal.
one of the all time best metal bands of any genre.
so talented, and yet so brutal (approaching death metal).
also glad to see Toxik mentioned (World Circus was great, altho their 2nd one was pretty much garbage IMO, altho talented).
and Deathrow. Deception Ignored is probably the most technical songwriting i can think of outside of maybe Watchtower, but it also is very cohesive and enjoyable (unlike what i've heard of Watchtower).
