I was checking VOD (I have AT&T U-Verse) and they're charging $10 for it! Why are they even showing it, if it's supposed to be realeased soon?vAre they expecting they won,'t make money off of it at the box office so they're trtying to schill it on tv?
Magnolia Pictures releases some movies on VOD prior to theatrical to help build buzz and awareness. It also gives those with kids, etc who cant make it to the theater a chance to see it
I've always wondered why more Studios didn't do that. They'd probably make more money.

I know that normally, if you premiere a film on tv before theaters, it's ineligible for Oscar consideration. Hence why more studios don't do sneak showings on tv.

Actually, a few years back, Linda Fiorentino was ruled ineligible for oscar consideration because "the last seduction' had aired on showtime before going to theaters. She was still eligible for some other nominations, however.
