Why did Demi rush to make a phone call (SPOILERS)

Did I doze off? Why did Demi rush to call the guard? I realize there was some glitch on the timing of the TV screens and she must have realized the guard might look up and see Michael Caine, but how did she learn/realize this? And since we later find out that Caine entered the vault many times in order to clean out all the diamonds, we can only assume that each time he would have made the same mistake on timing and each time would have appeared on the TV screen, as he did the first time. But in fact that didn't happen.

It was part of their plan... that she would call at a specific time to distract the guard and hopefully get another 30 seconds or so of distraction. Of course, as it turned out, the guard was plenty distracted for quite a long time.

Thanks.

Didn't she make two trips to the phone booth? It seemed that she forgot the phone number. She called the guard the second time she went to the phone booth.

She didn't forget the phone number...the first booth had no service sine the line was cut.

Thanks. I was disappointed in the thought that Demi forgot the number; it didn't seem like something her character would do.

I think the whole sequence was disappointing. They even screwed up the cliché of the fat security guy eating too much.

especially when you realize how many times he was in and out of the vault--apparently they never questioned the security guard who was feeding his face--

"...That's the beauty of argument, Joey. If you argue correctly, you're never wrong..."

She was rushing the second time, because the first phone didn't work - so she "rushed" to find another phone. I assume he got better with each trip and didn't need the additional 30 seconds. Looks like he underestimated the weight of the vault door on the first run and it took him longer than he expected.

He probably saved a few seconds not having to unlock the combination again. But it was really pushing credibility that he'd be able to make those multiple trips given his condition. All in all still a pretty well made movie, and Demi rather impressed me in this role.

After the first time, when he had to open the vault using the combination, he didn't really need her---he could have asked her to do that just to get her "involved" in the heist. Once in, he could stay as long as he wanted, as long as he kept time of the video shifts, say 15 seconds after the even minutes or whatever. So he could take his good time.
