I'm confused over a little bit at the end.
Near the end, one of the men was accused of bringing in the press. Then he's told that going to the press means there has to be a quick settlement.
Then someone else says that Ashton Croft will drop all charges contingent on an immediate settling of the claim.
Can someone explain this to me in simple terms. I don't believe I understand what was happening there.

Since the press was tipped-off about the robbery Lon Di had to get the diamonds back in a hurry or else their investors & clients would bail out. Because they needed the diamonds back before the press leaked the story, Croft was willing to pay the ransom and let the robbers (robber) go without filing a police report.
That's my take anyway.
yes and london diamond had insurance on their diamonds but the insurance company was trying to not have to pay out on the policy because it was so much money it would put them out of business. but after it was made publice they had no choice but to pay
