What happens to Hobbs?

This is a great film, no doubt. Only one loose end that bothers me. What happened to Hobbs? On the evening he went into the sewer to check on the diamonds and Laura follows him in, is the same night that Laura went to Finch to turn herself in. Finch and his squad swoop in and retrieve the diamonds, fine. The ransom has now been paid and transferred to a Swiss Bank account, fine. Hobbs then, does not have much time to escape. The soonest he could catch a plain out of the country is the next morning even if he did have things planed well in advance.

Finch is working for the insurance company and would want to do everything in his power to retrieve the ransom since, after all, he's entitled to a percentage. If that were the case, after he discovers that Hobbs is behind it all, he and his squad would waste no time in scouring the airports, train stations and piers. Even if the money were gone, they would still have Hobbs, and who knows they may even have a way to recover the money since it was acquired through criminal activity. There is no way that Hobbs could stay in the country. At this point, the diamonds are recovered and the only crime is one of fraud.

I think a much better ending would be for the camera to follow Hobbs to the airport as he boards a plane for South America. Finch pulls up outside just in time to see the plane take off. Then we go back to Laura finishing her interview.
