How did he have time to get all those diamonds out?

Can someone explain to me how he was able to spend that amount of time getting that amount of diamonds out of the vault without being seen by the security guard? At first he is at risk of being seen because he has to spend time putting the code in and opening the vault door and he is lucky because the security guard is distracted. But what was the security guard doing the whole time he was moving those diamonds backwards and forwards? How come the vault door is visible to the security guy when he puts the code in but then after it is not?

When the security guard is looking it just shows Michael Caine walking backwards and forwards with his cleaning equipment over and over again. The security guard didn't find it odd that this guy has been walking backwards and forwards in the same spot for hours? Nobody walked past the vault at all and saw the door open in all that time?

Only the first entry took longer than the 60-second window, because he had to put the code in and turn the handle and everything. After that, he left the door unlocked and was able to enter the vault within a 60-second window, spend as much time as he wants loading up the diamonds, and then leave the vault with them in another 60-second window. As for the door, he doesn't leave it open. It only takes a couple seconds to shut the door. So he shuts it each time he enters and each time he leaves, but never locks it. So he has the time.

As for the guard noticing him in the same hallway over and over, he probably just didn't care enough to notice that it was odd. Imagine having to sit in that room for hours, and hours, with nothing to do but watch a bunch of empty rooms and a janitor cleaning the building. He was probably bored half to death and just thinking about when he could go home and go to bed.
