What was De Niro's last good movie?

Heat?

I'm happiest...in the saddle.

"Everybody's Fine"... but before that, probably... "Men of Honor"?

I hate it when people never count Wag the Dog amongst his good movies ...I thought it was an amazing movie ...

The Score (2001).

That movie is ridiculously overrated. I thought it sucked the big one.

Meet The Parents

I haven't seen Everybody's Fine. But his last good performance was Jackie Brown back in '97.

I think his last good film was probably 'Meet the Parents', people don't tend to mention this as it's not the kind of film or role that they would like to see De Niro in, however, it is a good comedy and his performance is very good. At first I was tempted to say 'The Score', which I enjoyed, but since it would probably be a straight to DVD affair without the the presence of those three great actors, I decided against it.
As for 'Everybody's Fine', I thought the film was quite poorly written and directed and once again would've been a television film if not for the actors involved, however, I was very impressed by De Niro's performance, it's his best acting work for over a decade. He was excellent in this film.

The meet the parents movies are hilarious. He gave a great performance in this one too.

I loved Everybody's Fine. De Niro was the best I've seen him recently. He seems to be taking on a new turn in his acting style -very subtle. It's all in the eyes, the face, unlike his former acting buddie Al Pacino who is all over the place. De Niro keeps on getting better and better, and apparently from the "in development" portion of his page on imdb.com producers and directors seem to think so too. This guy is working!!!

wag the dog was terrible....his last good serious role was men of honor i agree...meet the parents is good too but obviously not deniro at his full potential.

What was De Niro's last good movie?

depends on how you look at it ;)

if your looking at 9 or 10 out of 10 level then... yeah, it's "Heat" (1995) (which i gave a 10/10).

but... if your just looking at something pretty good (say 7-8/10 range) i would probably say something like... The Score/Meet The Parents(if your looking at comedy then you can count this. but 'serious' stuff then this is out.)/Men of Honor/Ronin etc.

Men of Honor... was partially carried by Cuba Gooding Jr though... between him and DeNiro it helped make it memorable.

but back to what the OP said.... "What was De Niro's last good movie?" ...

my definition of "good" would be a 7/10 simply because anything under a 7/10 for me is to the point i don't care about it enough to watch it again for the most part so based on that i would list all of these films of his that i personally rated between a 7-8/10 since 'Heat' (1995) (which as i said above was a 10/10)...

-The Fan
-Sleepers
-Jackie Brown (although DeNiro wise this was weak since he did not really play to much of a role in this)
-Ronin (action film type wise... this was his best since Heat)
-Analyze This (all around solid comedy type film)
-Men of Honor
-Meet The Parents (mostly a Ben Stiller film but DeNiro was solid (and funny at times) in this)
-15 Minutes
-Meet The Fockers (although closer to a 6 than a 8 though)
-Righteous Kill (closer to a 6 than a 8 though)

that's pretty much it give or take a little.

his last good serious role was men of honor i agree

i pretty much agree to overall.

I pretty much like him more as the Everyman, or a fun character, than those ridiculous mobsters he plays, or anyone threatening...heh watch me break my own rules below. I liked him in...

Stanley and Iris
Cape Fear
Ronin

I actually have not seen Heat but apparently it's pretty recommended. Was he any good in Frankenstein?

What was De Niro's last good movie?

well only looking at DeNiro's films from 1996 to date i would say the following are the best ones...

-Ronin (1998) (8/10)
-Men of Honor (2000) (8/10)
-Meet The Parents (2000) (8/10)
-The Score (2001) (8/10)

so basically since Heat (which is a 10/10 by the way :) ) i would say "DeNiro's last good movie" would be basically 'The Score' (2001) which is damn near 10 years ago although i have seen a moderate amount of others i liked since Heat of his just not as good as the 4 i listed.

there's some others i am sure are good or almost good (7-ish range) but those seem to be the more stand out ones from the pack.

p.s. at the end of the day though... ill always mostly remember DeNiro for Goodfellas/Casino/Heat as those are the cream of the crop out of all the films he's been in. (i liked him in 'The Godfather PartII' but i won't list that since he had a smaller part in it)

Everybody's Fine is a good movie!!!!!

ill disagree. it's a decent movie but i don't think i would call it good simply because it's not a film i would go out of my way to watch again.

Why hasn't anyone mentioned Hide and Seek? I know the ending was cliche but I thought his acting in that movie was brilliant! I know it's rated low & all that but if people just looked past its shell they would see a decent psycho-thriller! So yeah Hide and Seek I would say was his last memorable performance if anyone had the chance to see it...

This Movie. But Stardust Was Great.

lol, I forgot about Stardust. He was terrific in that. But until I just watched this, I didn't think De Niro could do serious dramatic acting anymore. What a legend.
