Small scenes but wow the emotions...

Not sure if this has been brought up or not but I recently finished watchin it and for me, the best scenes were:

1) When they came home from a drive one night and Driver pits Benicio to bed and just the way he looks at them like 'this is what might could be'...I mean he could have gotten his jacket and quietly let himself out, right, and not intruded on that moment, as it were?

2) Where Driver was smiling over at Irene whist they were driving (looked like he was taking her to work); trying to gauge why she was so quiet all of a sudden and BAM she tells him her husband is coming home. Wow - the way his face just fell, shocked I imagine, and then it just turned to *beep* off. Gosling was great in conveying so many mixed emotions: happy/shocked/almost looked like he wanted to cry and back to impassive. Which leads to the blow up with the thug at the diner...

3) After the elevator showdown and after he shows just how volatile he really can be, and he turns around to see If Irene is alright and after that look passes over his face of, 'oh man' into 'oh crap' and again he looks as if he wants to cry or something....

Perhaps I misinterpreting these scenes and am curious as to what others thought about them so that when I watch again I might can understand it a little better.

No, I think you hit the nail on the head. The emotion in those little scenes are what turn the movie from good to great.
