The Guy Named Standard

I've never in my entire life met anyone named Standard. Is that a real name? It's even more unusual when you consider the character is Latino, and that is definitely not a Spanish name. Was it a nickname of some kind? Even still, it's a bizarre nickname and you'd think they'd give us what the story behind it is, but they never do. Was there a reason this character had such a weird name?

lol it is better than Deluxe lol. I was guessing it was a nickname. Not sure really, never explained in the film.

What you have there with that character's name is a movie that tried to be unique and stylish trying to be unique and stylish.

I think it might be a reference to driving standard (stick shift)? It didn't bother me.

^This could be a possibility. But maybe it was simply meant to be nothing more than a cool movie name. Unusual? That’s perhaps the point.

I like it.

Only other time I ever heard the name Standard was in Dan O'Bannon's original Alien script. All of the character names got changed during script re-writes.

But after googling it, turns out Standard is just a typical old English surname like so many others, well over 1000 years old. Rare today, apparently. But not all that weird after all.

edit: ...though it's weird it's his first name.
