But Drive certainly has been compared to a number of movies (The Driver is the one that’s brought up the most - and for good reason), and while there’s no denying the similarities exist between Drive and the likes of The Driver & Thief (and some old westerns), ultimately Drive is its own beast. Visually and tonally, Refn’s film has its own identity.
