weird ending

so the world class skier settles down and makes a family in remote part of alaska which earlier in the movie they admitted doesn't even get anymore skiers. ummm.
very weird ending. so few people will go there i don't see how he can even make a living and support his new wife and baby! and if he is such an awesome skier the coach of USA team would have not kicked him off just for missing one event because he wanted to attend his friend's funeral. that part was stupid.
