Touching, well-acted movie

I loved this underrated movie. It should have gotten a theatrical release. Joe P. shines in a role you wouldn't expect him to play--an ordinary father and husband. He usually plays gangsters, cops, or psychos. Marcia Gay Harden is wonderful in her part, too. She doesn't ham it up or overplay like a lesser actress would. The kid actor who played the son was very natural and handled the heavy material well. I also thought it was refreshing to see a film with no gratuitous sex/nudity, gory violence, or hundreds of f-bombs.
