Canadian citizenship in 6 months?

A character just told John that he'd have to be married to a Canadian for 6 months to qualify for citizenship. This isn't true at all. At all. This film gets more and more sickening due to the total lack of any kind of TRUTH. No research done at all, not even checking online.

"To become a Canadian citizen, you must have permanent resident status in Canada, and that status must not be in doubt. This means you must not be the subject of an immigration investigation, an immigration inquiry or a removal order (an order from Canadian officials to leave Canada)."

"To become Canadian citizens, adults must have resided in Canada for at least three years (1,095 days) in the past four years before applying."

And the ultimate BOOYAH! The processing time:

From receipt of your application to citizenship ceremony: 21 months

I didn't even mention how long it takes to become a Permanent Resident which I can tell you does not happen automatically when you get married. It can take a few months from inside Canada and even longer from outside (mine was outside and took 18 months start to finish and we used a lawyer).

So let's just for the heck of it tally up the totals:

Marry Canadian
Apply for PR = 18 months (if lucky)
Once you get the PR, wait 3 years. Then apply for Citizenship.
Wait 21 months.

Total time from marriage to Citizenship? 6 years, 3 months

Not to mention that to get the family class PR status your spouse has to sponsor you (or someone else with $$$) and promise to financially be responsible for you for ten years.

It also makes a difference if you're apply from inside Canada or outside Canada. Plus to get PR status you have to provide a ton of info, get your fingerprints taken, get clearance from the FBI, have a medical done by an approved doctor, give detailed info about your life, affiliations, job history, relatives, how you met your spouse, get special photos (6 of them) for the applications and card, and so on and so on and that doesn't even cover the COST. It's $490 just for the PR application alone (and the fees don't stop there.)

Not to mention if you're coming to Quebec you need to apply for a Quebec Selection Certificate.
