Don't forget Barbra Streisand

Well it's not particularly funny (I don't know why it's labeled as a comedy, it doesn't even seem to try to be funny), but everyone's ox gets gored at least a little bit in this movie.

Really? I thought it was fairly balanced, despite its title and premise. I was curious to see this after reading about it and braced myself for a Michael Moore feature (I am a Democrat but still think Michael Moore is over the top). Possible spoilers:

The movie starts as a jab at the Bush Administration (and the Neocons in general) but as it progresses, it curiously starts to poke at angry liberals, in particular those with a utopian idea of Canada. I must admit after Bush won again in 2004, I was considering moving to Canada too but did lots of research and decided to wait Bush out......how much more damage can he do?
Anna Paquin's character is supposedly liberal but is in the Army and at times, she vocalizes what the audience wants to say to John---"calm down, take a deep breath...we made it through Nixon, we can make it through this."

The sequence with the father was interesting as well. In a nutshell, the film was not a liberal fantasy. I'd recommend it to anyone.

Human Beings...Wow

Yep. Those who think this film has a "Faux News" (yuk yuk) sensibility are exactly the kind of people this movie aims to deflate. It was obviously written BY someone left-of-center, FOR a largely left-of-center audience, and the message is this: Be able to actually articulate your beliefs rationally, figure out how to best put those beliefs into action, and accept that compromise is necessary, instead of being a brittle, useless reactionary twit.

Hope ya listening Sean Penn, Tim Robbins, Susan Sarandon, Alec Baldwin, Babs, just to name a few libs who PROMISED to leave the country if Pres. Bush was re-elected; Man I had such high hopes after Pres Bush won that these Celiberals kept their promise but of course "all talk no action" they are wussies ..damn

reply

LOL. I am considering leaving the country. But it's because of my mistakes. This can't be home if I can't navigate the storms.
