It seems the only image of Canada this filmmaker has is whatever Fox News shoves down his throat.
The only stereotype missing from this conservative dressed up in liberal clothing film is a bunch of white men dressed up in 'black face' down on their knees singing Al Jolson's "Mammy".
I was with this film right up until they crossed the border. After that, I just felt embarrassed over how Canada is perceived. Pure ignorance.
I definitely understand where you're coming from, but it did have a place within the narrative arc. And, let's face it, the great 'fly-over land' of both nations isn't particularly impressive.
shareI thought the film bashed each sides effectively. Most of what 80% of the American population feels about Bush and his administration is vocalized by John.
Spoilers: The anti-Canadian sentiment, I think, was to burst liberal America's utopian idea of Canada. I realized that there may be SOME Canadians who feel like the ones in this movie, but not all of them must feel that way. Just as not every father who loses a son in Iraq goes off the deep end of the Rush Limbaugh worship scale. This film was a character piece.
