Slavery mention at the dinner table

John starts in on his dad about abolishing slavery at the dinner table without seeming to know that the Democrats voted against emancipating the slaves. This film seems to be pretty uneducated while trying desperately to attack Republicans and conservatives. At least get your history and basic knowledge of how the US works right before you go throwing stones.

"It was under Roosevelt that Democrats for
the first time placed language in their platform
calling for an end to racial discrimination; yet despite
the new language in their platform, Democrats
in Congress still killed every civil rights bill
introduced in that era."

This document gives what each party's platform stated on the subject of civil rights 1840 - 1960. Facts. They're what's for breakfast.

All those old southern Democrats left the party to become Republicans. So the idea that southern democrats back then supported slavery, Jim Crow, etc is irrelevant. JFK and liberal Democrats used the strength of the federal government to aide in the fight against segregation. Since the switch, segregation efforts are more closely tied to the republican party, and even more now the Tea Party of today....
