Can someone please tell me the APPEAL of this show?

Sorry, I just watched the show last night and I don't understand how it got 20 million viewers. I've asked this before: What's the appeal of this show? Will a fan please tell me????

reply

I watched it because I was curious to see if and/or how a group of strangers could all decide to give 1.5 million dollars to someone (other than themself). It's the simple concept of the show that appeals to me.

Of course, that was until I realized last night that the show is a total fake. Now, it's not so appealing.

reply

I read something on another thread about how this show shows the dark/twisted/greedy side of human nature. That doesn't sound very appealing to me. I might keep watching just to see how these dumb writers try to make the show longer. Even one of the contestants said, "Hey, I don't think this game is very fun at all!" I totally agree!

reply

Why does everyone keep questioning the appeal and validity of this show? It's an "unscripted drama and competition", FOX is not saying it's a reality TV show. Real or not real, who cares, most of the shows on TV aren't real. If you don't like it, don't watch it. I don't see the appeal of American Idol but I don't go around asking what's the appeal of the show. People like what they like and if you don't like Unan1mous then watch something else.

reply

they are questioning it goody bcs of exactly what you said, Fox is saying its a reality show when it isnt. The majority of shows be them good or bad, reality or scripted dont sell you one thing (in this case a reality show) then give you another thing (fake, scripted lame drama). Personally I dont like being lied to, apparently you dont mind.

reply

Your not being lied to. FOX isn't saying it's a reality show (from everything I've read) but everyone else is calling it a reality show. No where on the Unan1mous website does it say it's a reality show, it merely says "unscripted drama and competition", just because something is unscripted doesn't make it real, it's improvisation.

reply

Are you so idiotic you're unable to see that they insinuate it's a reality show, they've really sold it this way, without actually saying "reality show" only to be sure they won't have legal problems?

Unan1mous website? I'm watching tv, not visiting a website: at no point in the tv ads or during the show have they said "unscripted drama and competition" (even if they did, that wouldn't exclude "reality show": if it's not and they don't want to insinuate that, they would specify that it's not a reality show! They're clearly being deceitful!), they've insinuated it was real (but didn't say "reality show" either, not to get problems when it's revealed as fake).

Please stop acting like you're dumber than you really are: you know very well how this was sold/is being sold.

[By the way, their not saying "reality show" further proves that this is all fake.]

PS- Do you work for FOX?

reply

"By the way, their not saying "reality show" further proves that this is all fake." as said by idiot on message board.

This is my whole point, it's obviously fake. My problem is that people are complaining that they were lied to because they "thought" it was a reality TV show when it really isn't. I'm just sick of hearing people complain about the show. Stop watching it and it will go away in a couple of weeks. Haven't these people watched anything on FOX in the last twenty years, when hasn't anything on that network been a gimmick like this. I really do feel bad for all those american idol watchers who wasted their precious time watching unan1mous when they could have been doing more important things.

And myldew you need to calm down a bit, what are you, on of the writers for the show?

reply

"Tonight you're gonna witness one of the most shocking moments in reality tv history", said Ryan Seacrest tonight when advertising the show...is it FOX telling him to say this, or did he decide it himself?

reply

the appeal of this show is that it comes on right after the american idol results. i am 2 lazy to change the channel so i look at this show.

reply

I don't watch american idol so i don't know what Ryan Seacrest said but if he did say that then I take back everything I said. FOX did lie. I'm so hurt, and I thought it was real because Ryan Seacrest said so. But wait, he didn't say "most shocking moments in reality tv history on unan1mous", maybe he was talking about Amazing Race. Yes, that's it, he was talking about Amazing Race. You almost had me there. Another keen trick by FOX. I'm sure Ryan Seacrest can fool all of you, but not me. goody OUT!

reply

I can't explain the appeal either, but it got 20 million viewers because people are too lazy to change the channel after American Idol.

reply

I watched it because I didn't feel like changing the channel.
Yep.

reply

ya i think its cause american idol was right after but i actually really really like this show alot it shows alot of surprise and its fun to watch although i know all reality tv shows are fake ;/////

They have no idea? So they didn't read the script?

reply

I wanted to see the show because it would be interesting to see how you can get people together and vote for one of them to get a million dollars. Also, when they started adding little twists and turns that pressured them to make their decision more quickly was pretty interesting (like the timing). They should have added more of those so it feels like you're watching "Saw". However, I was really dissappointed when they just slowly revealed the truth about people, the arguments were unbearable, just dumb stuff that no normal person involved in the conversation would care about.
