30 Rock: Yes. 20 Good Years: No.

I was really excited about both of these shows. 30 Rock was better than I expected- funny, original, and fresh.

Unfortunately, 20 Good Years fell flat with me. The premise is credible but not great, and the plot was choppy. I think the show stars two of the most talented men in the biz, but they are underused and the writing is stale.

The laugh track is notably distracting.

The only part I laughed at was when John Lithgow stripped. And that was a cheap gag.

So NBC's got me with Studio 60, The Office, ER, and 30 Rock.
That's about it.

I thought both shows were good by Tweny Good Years was better.

I felt the complete opposite. I thought 30 Rock was too busy trying to be Scrubs in the entertainment environment and a good 15 mins of Tracy Morgan yelling and fulfilling every black stereotype isn't funny to me.

I loved 20 Good Years though, the chemistry between Lithgow and Tambor is incredible. I agree that the laugh track was overused incredibly, but still found the show great.

I watched 30 Rock expecting some hilarious show. The show was not that funny to me. When 20 good years came on, I was expecting it to completely suck, but I was wrong. I loved this show. I'm going to watch it next week.

I completely disagree with you people thinking that 20 Good Years was funny. A couple of moderately funny moments but it did NOT cut it. I feel bad for Jeffrey Tambor for going from Arrested Development to that. I can barely see how a person would actually like this show. I was just not impressed. Don't be upset though if you disagree.

Im not mad, and I COMPLETELY DISAGREE.

I completley agree, seeing Jeffery Tambour on such a brilliant show (Arrested Development) to this poorly written, one liner, and shock value of a tv show (based on the pilot) is very depressing. But its impossible to compare his characters beucase Arrested development is on its own level in the sitcom world, and unless the writing genius, Mitchell Hurtwiz and his team of arrested development writers decide to create a new sitcom, the quality of writing in arrested development can not be matched.

well said.
Have to say---I'm not a fan of either 30 rock or 20 good years.

reply

I completely disagree. I really enjoyed 20 Good Years. It was funny. However 30 Rock sucked. HARD.

reply

I missed both, but i do know one thing for sure. Arrested Development was really stupid. Just looking at the previews, this show looks really funny, 100 times more than Arrested Development and The Office.

I thought the pilot of 20 good years was pretty awful, but tonight's episode was much better.

30 rock is developing and will be even funnier. 20 gy sucks ass big time. I'm embarassed that two of my favorite actors have found themselves in such drivel. The laugh track needs to go, the storylines are weak and unfunny and frankly, Tambor and Lithgow are very weak in this and seem to be just sleepwalking through it oh and I think this may have turned into a run-on sentence, sorry.

30 rock is funny but 2o good years was hilarious if u liked 3rd rock from the sun you will love 20 good years it has the same humor and john lithgrow acts the same it's alwasy fun to see john so full of himself. 20 Good Years is a bore /w an amazingly loud laugh track that goes off after every spoken word. Maybe if I didn’t love “3rd rock” and “Arrested Development” so much this show would be passable.
But anyhow, why are people still watching network TV?

30 Rock is a decent show held together by Alec Baldwin and the network. Let’s get this show on Showtime and you’ll see a truly great show. Tine Fey on Howard Stern was amazing and you could only hope to know what she could do with no limits.

I agree with everything you said, avargas8. I honestly thought the show was pretty lame. The writing was pretty terrible for two great actors. The other thing I didn't like was the fact that they were supposed to be playing 2 heterosexual men, but they came off as being homosexuals. I was watching the show with a couple of relatives who turned to me & said "Are they gay?, I thought they were supposed to be straight guys". I'd like to see Jeffery Tambor & John Lithgow work together in something that's better written.

I tuned into this show because Jeffrey Tambour was in it. I loved "Arrested Development," and was hoping Tambour could do well in 20GY. However, I turned this off the minute I heard the laugh track. If Jeffrey Tabour has to go from AD to laugh track, he's not worth it. However, David Cross, on the other hand...
