Ruth Wilson as Jane

Does anyone else think that RW's ability to portray the depths of JE'S controlled emotions is sublime?

I most certainly wouldn't disagree with you. Ruth Wilson is a fantastic Jane Eyre IMHO, and this adaptation works very well for me.

But. Amongst the different adaptations (or rather, their fandoms) there a bit of a race for dominance when it comes to the interpretation of the novel, and therefore you'll find that many posters on the JE11 board will accuse Wilson of overacting (or they used to, at least) while claiming that their Mia Wasikowska's restraint is the only truthful way to depict JE's emotions - and the JE1983 board will tell you that theirs is the only version worth bearing the name of 'Jane Eyre' anyway.  People tend to be very protective of this story, and it's easy to stir up a veritable hornet's nest by making comparisons.
