Special effects were done by Weta Workshops, the same crew who did the Lord of the Rings trilogy.



They did a great job as did the actors - keeping a straight face!

Just sitting there among the zinnias, but the old Chinese man sold it to me anyways. For $1.95.

The special effects were pretty damn good, so I'm not sure what your point is.

CG gore is the worst thing that has ever happened to the horror genre.

The special effects were great practical effects by Weta. No doubt done with a relatively small budget. I think the OP may only appreciate digital effects.
