Totally Underrated
Does anyone else agree that this game is getting way more hate than it deserves? Sure, there are problems that can't be ignored (loading, lousy Amigo gameplay, occasional graphical slowdown), but the good aspects can't be ignored, either.
This game's stage design is excellent, and the non-linearity really makes replaying stages worthwhile. Silver's gameplay is slow, but also very well-done and fun to play. In addition, we finally get split-screen co-op in a 3D Sonic title. Sonic's gems (especially the Sky Gem) are also extremely fun to use, and add new ways of getting through the already branching levels.
The best reviews (not scores) I've found for this game so far are from the Sonic Stadium and GameInformer, who scored it 6 and 6.75 respectively. They listed the game's flaws, but also acknowledged the game's fun factor, which--contary to what many "professional" critics insist--does exist.
It seems that the game is being judged on a technical level, rather than on how fun it is. Considering that that's what video games were invented for, deeming people that enjoy it inferior is one of the most ridiculous things a person can do.
My score: 7.5/10; Rough around the edges, but with plenty of fun to be had. In my opinion, this is easily the best 3D Sonic title since SA1.
