Totally Underrated

Does anyone else agree that this game is getting way more hate than it deserves? Sure, there are problems that can't be ignored (loading, lousy Amigo gameplay, occasional graphical slowdown), but the good aspects can't be ignored, either.

This game's stage design is excellent, and the non-linearity really makes replaying stages worthwhile. Silver's gameplay is slow, but also very well-done and fun to play. In addition, we finally get split-screen co-op in a 3D Sonic title. Sonic's gems (especially the Sky Gem) are also extremely fun to use, and add new ways of getting through the already branching levels.

The best reviews (not scores) I've found for this game so far are from the Sonic Stadium and GameInformer, who scored it 6 and 6.75 respectively. They listed the game's flaws, but also acknowledged the game's fun factor, which--contary to what many "professional" critics insist--does exist.

It seems that the game is being judged on a technical level, rather than on how fun it is. Considering that that's what video games were invented for, deeming people that enjoy it inferior is one of the most ridiculous things a person can do.

My score: 7.5/10; Rough around the edges, but with plenty of fun to be had. In my opinion, this is easily the best 3D Sonic title since SA1.

If you found enjoyment out of it, more power to you.

But unfortunetly the poor controls, added with an odd camera system and the near exsisting collision detection make it kind of hard to be considered fun.

Its not like its just technical glitches making it bad, its the fact that the gameplay wasn't refined enough to be considered complete.

No, it's not "kind of hard"... it's FREAKIN' IMPOSSIBLE TO LIKE A GLITCHED-UP, UNPLAYABLE MESS LIKE THIS, LET ALONE HAVE FUN AT ALL.
There, I said it. This is coming from a dude who's been a Sonic fan since his older sister got the Game Gear over 15 years ago.

LOADING ISNT FUN. THEY SHOULDA TOOK AWAY JUST ENOUGH TO MAKE THE LOADING TIME LESS THAN A SECOND INSTEAD OF OVER 10 SECONDS. 1 YASELF

I for one have neither a PS3 or a 360. Not planning to get either anytime soon, but I'm a longtime Sonic fan hoping for a PC release. I heard this game getting mixed reviews from diehard fans like myself, but everyone else keeps bombing it including a 1 out of 5 from X-play, but I barely trust their opinion for games less than game of the year material anymore anyway, especially when they say Sonic's the only good chracter out of the ones I been growing up with in the series. On the issue of camera, glitches, and controls, the same issues were present in Sonic Adventure 1 and 2, but I liked both those games just the same. I guess I just have more patience than most people regarding those problems. The only issue that concerns me is the load times and a town area less likeable than the ones in SA1, cause I for one liked the concept of adventure elements in a Sonic game when the game first came out. Until I make a decision on a nex-gen system, I guess I only have to hope for the possibility of a PC version. I for one am too much of an admitengly blindly loyal fan to not pick up this game when I get a chance.

"Does anyone else agree that this game is getting way more hate than it deserves?"

No, all the hate it gets it deserves.

"the good aspects can't be ignored, either."

They can be if they're nonexistent, which they are.

"This game's stage design is excellent"

Although it isn't.

"and the non-linearity really makes replaying stages worthwhile."

Except the awful everything sucks what little quality present in the stage design right out of it.

"Silver's gameplay is slow, but also very well-done (No, it's not.) and fun to play."

Fun to play for about 2 minutes, then 14 minutes later and you're still in the same stage and ready to shut the game off.

"In addition, we finally get split-screen co-op in a 3D Sonic title."

Well hoo-baby, the game may be a complete disaster of qualiy and taste, but by-golly IT HAS 3D CO-OP.

"Sonic's gems (especially the Sky Gem) are also extremely fun to use"

For a couple seconds of screwing around.

"the game's fun factor, which--contary to what many "professional" critics insist--does exist."

The problem is is that it's burried under so much **** you could play it for years and never find it.

"It seems that the game is being judged on a technical level, rather than on how fun it is."

Either way it fails at both.

"deeming people that enjoy it inferior is one of the most ridiculous things a person can do. "

What else would you deem someone with such horrendous taste?

"this is easily the best 3D Sonic title since SA1."

That's not saying much. By the way, there hasn't been a 3D Sonic game yet, although SA1 came somewhat close.
