I think this movie actually made me loose 2 IQ points

Seriously I have never seen anything so poorly done in my life. I actually went out to see this on a date. It was like the last thing that was showing we actually ended up missing the first 20 and god am i glad we did. I'll say right off I am not a Tyler Pery fan. I think hes scripts are ignorant and there is a line of putting stereotypes in the lime light and then there is just reinforcing them. The best example I can give is taking someone like Chris Rock who speaks about race but it isnt his crutch against some dude from like comic view whos entire act is "SEE BLACK PEOPLE DO LIKE THIS....WHITE PEOPLE YALL BE LIKE THIS..."

I just think this entire movie was written in like a day or something. The only saving grace was that it was well acted. Starting off with Julia. She goes from hard ass lawyer to loving Monty in seriously like 2 min. I seriously sat there and went "what the *beep* just happened." There was NO flirting between the 2 what so ever. I think about the only thing was where Monty goes "i love me some black women" which she just looked at him like hes crazy. So she agrees to go with him for her birthday and proceeds to get drunk and wants to have sex with him. Suddenly hes the one for her? I mean come on WTF was that. And on that note to me it just made Monty look horrible considering he was ready to sleep with a woman that drunk when he is sober.

Now onto this "drug kingpin" God I actually wanted to see him get off because it was so bad. I know how the justice system works if an officer goes beyond what he is allowed but come on you mean to tell me they search the house and find nothing and find an entire factory in someones car its NOT going to get thrown out. And even if it does all you have to do is POOF go to the house again. But the real kicker that actually had me say outloud "oh come on" is in the school. The mom comes in yelling about not to call him and the bf assaults, threatens and everything else to Monty but nothing happens to him? I know Tyler tries to make him bader than what he is by saying "nobody will testify" but hell he gave those girls enough ignorant ni99er spunk. I figure theyd say something. Especially after beating them. You mean to tell me he just beat up your sister you dont want to live there and you have been saying stuff like "mmmhmmm" and "that looks like a weave" to random strangers but you wouldnt protect your sister or try to get help.

But the biggest kicker in this was the entire rape charge. At this point id like to express my apologies to white people for this movie. HAHA like the way it seems like in the white movie that the drug dealer happens to be the only black guy in the movie, it was so predictable that the lone white woman would be evil enough to charge Monty with rape even if he didnt. But thats beside the case
1. You mean to tell me that he rapes you and stays the night cuddling and you have no scars
2. He spends 8 years in jail but was false accused. Honestly do you realize the possible media attention that wouldve gotten or to a lighter extent that that girl would probably have been thrown in jail or possibly sued (remember its a tyler perry movie so all white people are bad..i assume they had money..remember they are white)
3. Julia gets pissed because he never told her BUT the reporter says how he was falsely accused meaning it was pretty common knowledge. I mean that whole "I TRUSTED YOU" scene with julia and monty shouldve went like this

Julia- WERE YOU ACUSED OF RAPE
Monty- YES BUT I WAS INNOCENT, FALSELY ACCUSED. IF YOU DONT BELIEVE ME LOOK IT UP.

God there is so much more but I cant even type anymore haha. Its nice to see black people succeeding but if it has to be Tyler Perry id just as quickly save my money.

OMG seharris...to tell u the truth I havent even seen the movie...but I think I have lost more IQ points than u trying to at least like any yler Perry movie...They are horrible..he is a HORRIBLE screen writer, who makes very very very below mediocre story lines that resembe that of a soap opera's...and not even..he reinforces these awfulblack stereotypes in his movies...the madea plays are somewhat worth watching...Madea is HILARIOUS, and the singing i fantastic, to the storis are ALWAYS so baaaad! They have no innovation, nothing new to bring to the table other than recycled stories told through black ppl...that is it..Tyler Perry is bring black ppl BACK to the movies, and is also making a lot of money for his production company...but that doesnt in any way make any of his stuff watchable...I am so mad that PPl wuld rather watch a movie by him than something by Spike Lee who makes the movies that hit so many themes beyond race..

See thats another thing. That whole if people hate you you're doing something right attitude. (PS im sure there are alot of other typos in that piece and im sure if you look you probably discover it was one giant sentence or something like that) Anyways yes in some situations people may just be jealous of your success but people act like "If you're doing something and anyone doesnt like it, they just a hater". A hater is a person who looks at the career of spike lee or will smith and says "man hes wack" and when you say why they have NO REASON. Thats hating. Everyone on here is providing reasons why this movie sucked. Fine you liked it. To me that just makes you either 6 years old, or a person who also found little man to be better than citizen kane. This guys stories go no where. There are 9000 plot holes in them that dont even make sense. Tyler perry to me is a guy who doesnt understand the hood who is writing about the hood. And it shows in his stereotypical black characters.

Sure about this? He says he is 34 and his oldest girl is 12, so he was 22 when she was born. If he spent 8 years in jail, he went to jail when he was 14 (unless he somehow got conjugal visits), he didn't look 14 in the flashback and would he have been charged as an adult? Wasn't it a commuted sentence and the judge referred to his 8 years as having been on probation ever since?

And if he had truly been "wrongfully convicted" as per the TV reporter, why was the conviction valid evidence in the hearing anyway?

He was 18 when he went to jail. He was currently 34 and he went to jail 16 years ago for "raping" a 16 year old, who lied about her age.

and they never showed him in the flashback, jus the dude invitn him in2 the party, the girl, and the guy who made her accuse him of raping her! This movie could have used some tweaking here and there, but it was very very very very good and made tons of money on opening day alone! He is a very good play and screen writer in fact I am inspired by him. Its not like you can do any better!!!!!

So how did he have a 12 year old at age 34 - he would have had her at age 22, only possible if he didn't serve the full 8 year sentence or somehow got conjugal visits, assuming he knew the girls mother before he went in

Okay, I have not actually seen this movie but would just like to take the time to make some comments/suggestions on the situation:
1. If you are going to reference parts of the movie (I don't think I need to mention names) please give a spoiler warning, regardless if you think the movie is so horrible that it can't be spoiled.
2. As I said before, I have not seen this movie, but I have liked Tyler Perry's work in the past. Yes I am black which may be why or maybe not. In my opinion, the people who have said they don't like this movie(and this is just a general assumption) are probably a majority of people who are not black (mainly black North Americans). Someone mentioned before me the ability to relate to something makes it interesting for the most part. It can be the smallest thing, like a movie showing what someone does when he first wakes up or how they react to a certain comment. To be mores specific, being that America (USA) is mostly run by(not necessarily influenced by) white people there is more exposure to this life and culture. This why I believe more black people do enjoy a movie with a white cast than white people enjoy a movie with a black cast (exempting racism and bias and possibly one movie is better than the other). Just an example from my perspective. I go to a white university. Once at a basketball half time event. There was a black frat performing a step show. In seconds it got silent and I saw faces wondering what was happening and a few of them laughing thinking it was a comedy skit.
3. Regardless of what the media says, black people do like to see our people succeed especially with all the stereotypes out there. This does not mean we want to see garbage. But maybe some people are coming to see Tyler Perry's movies and expecting a comedy or drama. Tyler Perry lives a Christian life (by this I mean he represents and praises God and Jesus publicly)and since his start I have thought of his works to be inspirational. Facing adversity and still being able to say thank you to Him good or bad.
I'm not saying my opinions are right and absolute, only that they are my opinions. Maybe his movies are only cult hits.(which is fine with me) But when rating a movie I think the movie's genre should be taken into consideration and that they not be labeled incorrectly. A movie with comedic relief does not make it a comedy is all I'm saying. Despite the reviews I plan on seeing this movies anyway. Finally, how does a movie make you lose IQ points?

Thats what im talking about. Giant plot holes. Its like he writes and doesnt push the damn spell check or whatever. But my thought is that this was Tyler Perry's anti white shot. You know the whole "he wouldnt have gotten in trouble if he wasnt messing with white girls"

Now with that statement let me ask you something. If someone had a drug dealer or bad dad in a movie and said thats not anti-black its the truth. black men are notorious for being thugs and wastes on society would that offend you?

That might appear to be a cheap shot at white girls, but his girls' mother was equally if not far more disrespectable as an adult

The white teen was seen sitting in her bed trying to look innocent to her parents -- sending a young man to jail marring his record for life is reprehensible, but so is coercing your own daughter to sell drugs at school or ignoring your dying mother who is taking care of your kids.

While there were no other whites in the movie for balance, besides his two shrill black women there was the neighbor/attorney assistant who came across as even-tempered and "normal". I kept thinking the plot twist was he was going to end up with her, but it never showed much about her personal life.

I think this was an ok movie. I agree that the script has major loop wholes specifly the realtionship part was just.... dead.No real attraction, no sparks, just a horny drunk girl wanting sex but to embarressed from puking. After that they are perfect for each other... pfft bs

The white teen thing is just another truth in the world that was being stated, even the drug dealer and bad mom thing is true. Not for everyone, but there is people like that in the world.

There is white girls who want to look innocent so scream rape, and black drug dealers and moms who are just......we'll...ignorent for lack of a better word.

No racism in this movie at all. Just facts of life from certain points of view.
I rate this movie 6.5 out of 10 because charecters really didnt have much story and there wasnt much of a story to be told but it drew me into the movie.

I just saw this movie & really liked it. As for the alleged anti-white shot, I didn't see it as that at all. I'm white & know a lot of slutty white girls who mess around with black guys & then tell lies when the guy doesn't call them back. That's what was implied in the flashback - some slutty white girl invited him up to her room, when it was over she asked if he was going to call her & he honestly said probably not. She got all sad & said, "You're just like all the other guys" so you know this wasn't her first time at the rodeo (not sure if he was her first black guy or not but that doesn't matter). Then her dad comes in & rather than believe that his daughter's a little whore, he asks her if Monty forced himself on her & she said yes to save face. White girl or not, that *beep* goes on all the time & that's why men should be a little more selective in whom they screw. There was an incident in the news a few months back about a young football player with a promising career ahead of him who was falsely accused of rape, he pleaded no contest on the advice of his inexperience public defender & served 8 yrs in jail. The trick who accused him of rape sued the school (it was in Long Beach, CA) & she admitted this year that he never raped her; it was her mother's idea to lie about it & sue the school. Those women ruined that young man's life, just like the whore in the flashbacks so it's not unrealistic. (Btw if it matters to anyone, both the girl & the guy in the real life story are black).

Anyway, I thought this movie was really good; I'm a huge Tyler Perry fan. And not only am I white but I'm really really white & really enjoy Tyler's work & this film is definitely worth watching. It was nice to see a good family man doing whatever he could to take care of his family & I'd definitely recommend it to others.

I am less concerned about Tyler Perry's movies than I am seharris bragging that Citizen Kane was a good movie. A trash movie at best, but seharris is "full Black" in his own words.....Citizen Kane OMG.

this movie was amazing... and thats all i can say. quit over thinking it and take it for what it essentially is; an upliftling film. so what if a few things dont make sense TO YOU, it makes sense to ppl who can infer, and to those who know that not every movie is perfect. you probably lost those iq points before seeing this film, thats why you just dont understand its relatively simple plot.

Life is short and Rated 2 out of ten pretty much speaks for itself it sounds pretty bad, and I'd like to thank everyone that commented, so now I won't waste my time watching this and I'll find something better to watch.

LOL! Great post! and I totally agree, this movie was straight stank! The one thing that still confuses me is why did Julia's friends have such a problem with her dating Monty but tried to hook her up with that ignorant,low class, thuggish, 40 year old rapper?????

Exacly what I was thinking - and not only did they set her up with the "rapper", they must've set her up with the married guy too! Great friends...especially the one she ran into at the aquarium - who reacts like that to a longtime friend's choice of lover?! Especially when they're in the beginning of the relationship.

Pretty much everyone in this movie was an over-the-top caricature or stereotype - Monty was the only one close to having more than one dimension.
