I don't know who told you otherwise dude, but...you're a racist. Plain and simple.

You laugh at me because I'm different. I laugh at you because you're all the same.

Hmm, that seems like a racist (or at least a stereotypical) comment if I ever heard one. Tribal? So we are all primitives and live in the jungle (black folks). You got a lot of growing up to do.....

Anyways, I like this movie, but it was not the best Tyler Perry movie, but certainly worthy of at least a 7 rating. I am sure there are people who come on here (racist-alike and not) that rate movies based on (whatever reason they don’t like about a movie), even if they have not seen it. That’s called ignorance and it does run rampant not jus ton IMDB.

No, I actually noticed it too. I think the culture clash causes whites not to like "black movies" so they give it terrible ratings. I experienced this first hand in theatre arts class. We were watching Kings of Comedy in theatre arts class, and it was kind of funny because all of the black kids were paying attention and laughing their heads off, and 99.9% of the white kids were in the back of the classroom talking. They didn't get the jokes, and I understand it. Alot of the humor in situations comes from experience, or at least identifying with what the joke was about. (as well as identifying with different dramas too) Since our home lifes are a little different we both don't have that same experience, and what's funny to me may not be funny to you as you can tell by the IMDB ratings.

Oh, and I also think its because there's more white participation than black participation. I think if IMBD broke the votes down into race (which I don't really recommend) the cotes would reflect this.

i'm black and i hate tyler perry movies. *beep* should be released on lifetime, not as feature films. people aren't racist, tyler perry movies are just awful, the guy is just highly overrated among the black community, end of story.

reply

I never said anyone was a racist.

The problem is, his plays are great, but the movies aren't so great. They lose substance when they come out on the big screen. if you've ever actually watched any of the Madea plays(they are all available on DVD) I can guarantee you you will love them and roll over laughing. Dairy of a Black Mad Woman the play was great, but I admitt the movie was no where near

reply

no, that was not it stefannejl3. they rent the hell out of black films. they just hate it when there are no whites. also, they rank the movies low without seeing them. it's a terrible insecurity.

reply

Because they're usually terrible?

reply

But I've seen the same people on other threads of Tyler Perry movies saying the same things over and over again. If you don't like Tyler Perry films then don't watch them. end of story.

if you don't like peoples opinions then a message board is the worst place to look.
a movies quality has nothing to do with race. He's a terribly over rated director and none of his films deserve over a 4.
People on these boards who are racist about 'black' films are doing it to start trouble.

While I feel that there is some merit to the argument that there are some whites who purposely give some black films a 1 rating. I'm not sure if it's any different from a Star Wars fan who purposely gives Lord Of The Rings a 1. This is the type of argument that should be made when it concerns a movie that was actually good. Daddy's little Girl just isn't a movie that helps the argument. I'm not a fan of Tyler Perry's movies and I was forced to watch this movie on a date. I keep an open mind, but as much as I tried I couldn't enjoy it. It's just a terrible soap opera basically. This movie deserves a 1 rating and that's the only reason I happened to see this board.

why was "World of the war" all white people ? The list goes on

Why don't you get it? There are a few things that you ignorant people who are accusing people of being "racist" (which apparently now means not liking a movie)just don't know. First of all, your presence in these chat rooms proves that there aren't just white people on IMDB: Black people vote too, and if they thought the movie was so good, the average would be a bit higher than it is. Secondly, there are probably more "white people movies" in the bottom 100 than "Black movies." Stop crying and calling people racist, because when you call someone a racist when it's hardly racism at all, you are the one at fault. If you know Al Sharpton, tell him that too.

Probably because most black movies suck. lol. And no, I'm not white. I'm black, so I'm allowed to talk negatively about black movies. :P But seriously. I don't think its about racism.

though this film is a bad example there is alot of merit to the fact that cultural differences will turn people off from movies no matter how good or bad they are.what if the departed was all black would it be as popular as it is now?? i doubt it.

reply

It seems likely that people rate movies higher when they can identify with the main protagonists. But that might make the difference between a 6 and an 8, say. For this movie to have an average 2.5 it either has to be an absolute stinker or it has been targetted.

I tend towards the latter view because of some comments here and also because people should have known roughly what the movie was like before watching, so it seems unlikely that a lot people went and watched this and then gave it a 1.

^agreed

This may be true because my mom told me that the black movies of the 30's and 40's were horrible, too! What can be done to produce better black films? I'm black, too!

reply

black movies have preconceived opinions before they even hit the screen,by both blacks, and whites.also it has ALOT to do with cultural differences as far as being able to relate to the film.which is why there is few all minority leads when it comes to big budget genre flicks.

Though Tyler Perry's movies are terrible, you have to consider the notion that his movies are created for a specific audience and thus, won't appeal to everybody.

In the case of "Daddy's Little Girls", I suspect that it was intended for socially conservative, middle-class blacks who exhibit strong religious dispositions.

This is evident throughout the film as it tries so hard (too hard) to be "demographically correct". Every stereotype in the black community is represented in the film---from the siditty uptown lawyer, Julia, to the hardworking, hard-to-find good black man, Monty, to the boorish, drug-hungry hoodlum, Joe. Unsurprisingly, these characters are undynamic, acting as mere buttresses to the typical theme of Tyler Perry's movies: poetic justice.

Ultimately, I think the only reason this movie made it to Hollywood was due to the unexpected success of "Diary of a Mad Black Woman". Producers probably saw it as an opportunity to profit off the modest tastes of conservative, middle class black Americans. Obviously, that plan backfired.

Anyway, I support the negative rating of this movie; however, as a free-spirited African American, it's clear to me that this black film was not intended for all members of my community.

reply

i agree 100 percent.
I ain't african-american, i'm just African.
But these movies suck big time, its just that they suck.
Look at Norbit and little man. Its not about these movies being black
its about how incredibly unintelligent these movies are.

reply

its a combination of both probably.but keep in mind fantastic 4 is terrible but it broke the sales slump of 2005.so ratings almost have nothing to do with it being good.and and despite the denial you guys are in race and cultural difference plays a HUGE part in movies being accepted by mainstream America.
