Dr. Smith

For those of you who have seen this, I wanted to run a few ideas by you.
I think that Dr. Smith was meant to be hiding out somewhere aboard the Jupiter-2, and would've been introduced (after having been found - probably by Will and the Robot) in the second episode, had this series been picked up.
I also think that it would've eventually been revealed that Dr. Smith had something to do with the Aliens unexpectedly attacking, boarding, and ultimately destroying the larger Jupiter transport ship.
I like to think that he may have been a notorious traitor who had collaborated with the Aliens when they attempted to invade Earth, and defected to live amongst the Aliens when said attempted invasion was repelled by the heroic John Robinson & Co.
However, after 15 years with them, he has since decided to repatriate in a sense, and desperately wants to live amongst humans again.
He thinks that the best way to do this is as a "pioneer" on a "frontier" planet, away from Earth, where me might run a greater risk of being brought to justice for his crimes.
So, he has somehow gotten aboard the Jupiter transport ship.
But - for some reason - the Aliens don't want to let him go. Maybe it's because he's got information about them that they don't want him to share with the rest of humanity. Maybe he was involved in criminal acts during his time amongst them. Maybe both. Maybe neither. I don't know.
Anyway, that might have something to do with the aforementioned unexpected attack, boarding, and ultimate destruction of the Jupiter transport ship by the Aliens.
And maybe it's Dr. Smith's knowledge of the Aliens (which gives the Robinsons hope that he can help them find & rescue David), perhaps combined with sincere regret for collaborating with the Aliens, and some attempt(s) to atone for his crimes, that keeps the Robinsons from throwing Dr. Smith out of an airlock, thus leaving him free to get into some relatively harmless trouble with Will and the Robot!
However, in keeping with the more serious tone of the show, there could be some genuine tension and hostility on the part of John Robinson and Don West in particular towards Dr. Smith, with occasional flair-ups, and an ever-present feeling that it could potentially all come to a head, resulting in Dr. Smith being marooned or dead (although this - of course - would've never happened, unless the actor playing Dr. Smith had wanted to leave the show at some point).
Of course Maureen and Judy wouldn't have minded Dr. Smith at all, because women just love having an effete man around - they're so entertaining and such good listeners!
All of this involves alot of speculation on my part, I know, and maybe I'm casting Dr. Smith a little bit too much in the mold of Dr. Baltar, but what do you think?
Also, who do you think could've played Dr. Smith in this series?
Remember, it'd have to be someone who would've believably been working on a regular series on the WB/CW 5 years ago.
Personally, whoever it was, I would hope that they would've played him as a bit of a fop, more like the Jonathan Harris version, rather than the Gary Oldman version (although I do love Gary Oldman and think that he's one of the greatest living actors).

Well, that's quite imaginative, but no. The whole point of this version, as stated in many interviews with the producers, is that there is NO Dr. Smith. So he wouldn't be found hiding, dancing, mincing about, being Will to Judy's Grace or whatever else you suggested in episode two, or eight, or ninety-seven. The void created by the absence of Dr. Smith was meant to be filled by David, a character who did not exist in any previous version of LiS.
