Weak exploration of alternate energy sources.

I loved most of this film.

But the part where the movie outright dismissed alternative energy sources to oil was a bit much. The interviewees rejected solar electricity because CURRENT solar technology would have a hard time filling for 100% of the gap left by fossil fuels. There was about a sentence on wind energy. And others have accused the section on nuclear energy on being misleading.

Most glaringly, however, is the complete lack of mention of both Hydroelectricity and Biomass, which make up a fairly strong majority of current renewable energy (at least in the year the film was made). (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Ren2006.png)

I'm no energy expert, and Wikipedia isn't exactly the most credible source, but this seemed like a weak attempt to keep the sense of dread the movie had going.

So apparently there was a mention of biofuel in the movie, I just didn't notice it. They sure weren't willing to put much time towards alternative energy in general.

How much of arable land would you need to convert for bio fuel? In a world of 7 billion people needing be fed, with less resources overall, is this practical? And solar and wind have limits. They're not going to power our cars and industry. Face it.... We're up against the wall...
