this movie wasn't that great to me because...

...they ruined the whole concept of stepping. stepping stems from africa where they had no music so they used their hands and feet as instruments. i still can't get over the fact that in the movie they were "stepping" TO music! yes we saw a whole lot of movement and it is a big part in this culture but come on now...maybe only once or twice in this movie did i hear an actual beat. music for dramatic effect? i think it would have been way more powerful if we could have heard and watched every sound being made.

but that's just my opinion =)

you know, i kinda agree with you. the movie wasn't horrible or anything but i was expecting more as far as the stepping. when they were battling at the very beginning of the movie, i became confused. i was like "am i watching 'stomp the yard' or 'rize?'" LOL but later on in the movie, i understood that they were differentiating between the different styles of "dancing." but then when they began to showcase the style of stepping, i was not impressed. i was mainly wanting to see more stepping than actual dancing. having gone to an HBCU, i've seen some really GREAT stepshows and "stomp the yard" just was hitting it for me.

...basically, this movie is nothing but a lame sequel to "you got served", which was also a bad movie with bad script and wannabe actors. hell, meagan goode was in that one too.

Now that is absolutely true ,They should have kept their You got served steps in a part 2 , Not mess up the glorious tradition of Frat and sorority step shows !

I may be mistaken, but I distinctly remember fraternities and sororities stepping to music when I was school. I also remember in the movie, music wasn't used the whole time while they were stepping. Please stop being so overly critical. It's a movie for goodness sake!

if you would like a movie made about historical stepping, here's a thought, go make one!
