and so sad. What a perfect ending that strays away from what we'd expect.

I expected cliche he gets his rabbit after a week and he and her make up and he becomes friends with her boyfriend...

I expected happy.

I thought the lesson was more about how his life was so financially burdensome that he couldn't give the little girl on the train the longer pencil. Either that or the way his relationship with Alice (who, possibly reminded him of his own daughter? The ordeal with the picture comes to mind) ended made him think that he didn't want to go through the whole process again. The state of his own life and the popularity of his occupation (or the lack thereof) clearly led him to realize that no one should be so disillusioned to, well, believe in magic.

I didn't shed tears, but I did find tears welling up in my eyes. It's a bittersweet ending, I think.

'Who is this person the world owes money to? Can we just kill the bastard and relax?'
