When will Americans get to see this?

Anybody who knows anything about Sony Classics' distribution plans in the US, I would love to hear from you. I am dying to see this movie.

Ignorance is bliss isn't it? I am an American an i actually enjoy watching foreign films. OMG WHAT??? *European accent* Americans can't read those little yellow or white words at the botom of the tv screen can they?* I'm speaking on behalf of all the Americans who are offended by you stuck up European a$ses who constantly look down on all americans just because Hollywood steals your movies and tries to make a quick dollar by downgrading your films. You see us as ingorant Yankees who have no appreciation for foreign art forms, which in turn makes you just as ignorant. thank you for your time.

Well, I'm not an American and I found your comment simplistic.

I'm one of those stuck-up Europeans and I thought it was damn funny. I'm also aware that America is home to a lot of highly cultured and very intelligent people. None of which changes the fact that it was a timely and arguably true joke.

reply

First, since nobody has answered the OP's question, it will be coming out in America in a limited release on Christmas. And it's true. Most Americans are as un-cultured as they may seem. I am an American and I know this for a fact. Think about how many people you know that come from America that have taken the time to learn another language other than English. How many Americans would rather watch an English language remake over an original foreign language film? The answer is very many. You can see this in the trailer for this and other foreign films like Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. All marketing for these films has no footage with dialogue to make it seem like the films are in English and hopefully attract viewers. Despicable.

Bland is a good name for you.

You'd feel cocky too if you were full of myself.

He was being facetious.

Us Los Angeleinos have been able to see it. It's played in three theaters. And there's no dialogue, weenies.

Dictated, but not read.

^ That's sad that natives even in their own country have more American films than films in their own language.

At the Bryn Mawr Film Institute, an arthouse theater in (big surprise) Bryn Mawr, PA, there was a poster for The Illusionist labeled as "Coming Soon." I may have missed it, because the other day when I went past, the poster was gone. I checked out their website, and never saw word 1 about it.

The Triplets of Belleville was an incredible film, and I can't wait to see this, even if I have to watch it on the small screen.

reply

I have yet to see it. I have to soon since I don't know when my local arthouse theater will be removing it from their listings. It's been up for nearly a month so I guess it's doing good.

reply

I saw it at The Capri Theater in Montgomery, Alabama tonight. So if you're somewhere near there, it's showing until the 24th, I believe. My friends and I drove a little less than an hour to see this film, and it was definitely worth it.

reply

Academy Theater in Portland, Oregon is currently showing it.

Exact science, Mr. Angier, is not an exact science.
