the little notebook

hi,

i must admit that i dosed off 3 or 4 times throughout the movie. So I didn't understand the significance of the book/notebook on top of the table at the end.

Why the notebook was left on the table I cannot say.

However, the most important point of that scene is that when the wind blows in through the window, and the book begins to flip through its pages, the shadow cast on the wall turns into an image of a bird. i.e. a bird flying away.

This is mostly a metaphor for the girl growing up & finding a boyfriend, but in a way I think the magician was also free. He is finally able to let go of the past & give up magic. Sad, but also liberating.
