Ming-Ming's W's for R's are annoying!

I don't know why people think cartoon characters with speech impediments are cute. My son is 5 and watches this show and I have just started to get him to promounce L's like L's instead of W's. It was annoying to watch Baby Bear on Sesame Street pronounce W's for R's, and now it is even worse to watch it all over again from Ming-Ming. While many small kids do pronounce words wrong, the object is to correct them, and having these characters mispronounce them does NOT help the cause, and may even encourage the child to mispronounce the word. The best way to correct is through repetition, so I hope there is an episode where Ming-Ming learns to pronounce her R's, since the Wonder Pets DO help baby animals after all (even helping Ming-Ming get unstuck a couple of times).

It is also not original. It rips off many elements of Backyardigans, Dora the Explorer, and Go Diego Go. At least Backyardigans has more varied music. Rips off the other 2 shows with the constant baby-animal rescues. (Maybe mix it up a bit and save a year-old human toddler.)

Otherwise the show is good for young children. Interesting that the creator's name is Selig (as in baseball commissioner). If the Wonder Pets suddenly bulk up to ginormous sizes, we'll know why! ;-)

My kid talks fine. Most 5-year-olds have 1 or 2 letters they can't pronounce well. But on the IMDB boards and the Yahoo boards there are always douche bags who have to FLAME EVERY THREAD, EVEN THAT OF A KID'S SHOW! You are the Internet tough guy. You wouldn't have the balls to say this to my face because I would beat the crap out of you. You obviously don't watch this show and you obviously (hopefully) don't have kids. YOU were never shown love as a child or you wouldn't be so FLAMING HOSTILE on a KIDS' SHOW BOARD. Let me further point out how unoriginal this show is: we already had TWO other cartoon ducks who talk like retards and their names are Donald and Daffy. I hope for Christ's sake and for the sake of the world that you never reproduce, because if you did, then it's too late for humanity. If you want your kids/nephews/nieces/cousins/whatever to talk like Ming-Ming and Baby Bear until they turn 30, that's your business and your problem.

Ming Ming is a girl, and the reason she speaks like that is because the voice actor, Danica Lee, has a speech impediment where she pronounces her 'R's as 'W's. So you're not hearing her pretend, that was her real voice and her accent.

That was so rude and out of line. He deserves to punch you in the face for that.

FYI: Ming-Ming is voiced by a Danica Lee, a seven-year-old child, who actually spoke like that. The producers let her do so because they thought it was charming.

They were correct.

One question --- anyone here ever read Hooway for Wodney Wat?

I agree with Chef. Yeah, maybe the kids wont pick it up, but still, why even teach them to speak improperly. Same as with the Rugrats. Don't get me wrong, that show is great, but it's hard enough to be a kid nowadays, why make it harder. I had a lisp when I was a kid and it was awful. Between home and school there wasn't anywhere I could hide. I had to be pulled out of class in front of everyone to go to speech class. How embarassing. I agree that they should have an episode where they help her learn to pronounce her R's better.

I think the show IS great and the songs are adorable! I get a little annoyed when Ming-Ming talks. My 5 year old daughter thinks it's adorable and cute. As long as my kids don't copy her speech, I'm fine with it. They also love playing the game on nickjr.com

I grew up watching the Three Stooges, and I still say "Soitenly", and "Bwoob Bwoob Bwoob". Hasn't really stunted my career or interpersonal relationships. Lighten up everyone.

Ming-Ming just has a lisp. It's supposed to be cute like a baby just learning words.

Really? I get pretty amused when Ming-Ming sang, not once, but twice, in the same episode, "This is se-wious!"
By the way, is that thing a boy or girl? I always refer to it as a girl.

Man, I don't know how I managed to grow up and speak correctly after watching and listening to Tweety Bird say "I taught I taw a puddy tat" so many times in the old "Looney Tunes" cartoons.
