Meaning of the Title???

Can anyone explain the meaning of the title?

It seems like it could very well have been called Green Frogs from Kansas
(because the title here, in my view, is totally 100% meaningless.)

The beach they always went to - it is closed for winter - just like Elise closed herself off from everything after Frances disappeared, and her mother even more so.

It was bothering me all day yesterday (first time I saw this movie; sorry for being late to the game!). What does Closed for the Winter have to do with the movie - I see no significance at all. I mean, unless they were loosely tying the correlation of the beach being closed for winter and letting go of the loss of Frances or whatever. That is stretching it! hehe

I've already mentioned in another thread the obscure metaphors which are Georgia Blain's books - and this film closely follows the book by the same name.

The beach is `closed for winter' and this also reflects how the family - now only mother and daughter - is also `closed' for a winter which has already lasted over a decade.

As a film title it is obscure, but as a book title it is fine.
