Best Anime I have seen in a Long, long time!
I just discovered Fantastic Children about a month-ish ago. I am watching it as it airs on the station MNET. I stumbled across this show by accident and just fell in love with it!
I've been an anime fan for 15 years. Way before it got popular on TV, back when you had to go out of your way to find anime stores that sold VHS. :P Since I'm such an..ahem..old fan I eventually grew jaded with the selection of anime that started dribbling out of Japan. Suddenly no shows could give me that excited spark that my old classic favorites gave me when I first got into the scene. Sure I found some exciting new shows like Gankutsuou and Mononoke (the series not movie) but while they were breath taking and entertaining.. they still didn't have that... nostalgic feel!
THEN I FOUND FANTASTIC CHILDREN!!! :D
I stumbled across it completely on accdient. You see, i have Digital Cable and when the station MNET comes up on the guide it NEVER shows information on the programing and the station's website was nonexistant till just recently. So anything that I actually watched on the station was a complete accident in finding. I found FC because there was nothing else to watch at 11pm on a Sunday evening.
At first I was disinterested in the show. The artwork kind of threw me off (hey those are some big sharp schnozes...) but after catching it a few times.. that same artwork really began to call to me. On my first viewing I thought that the series might have been an old 60s anime because the art style reminded me of those old animes. Seeing as how it was obviously drawn with a computer I quickly changed my mind.
Thought at first to me it seemed the show was slow with the story line, the series is actually pretty fast paced (to me.). I know a show is good when I can sit there for an HOUR and still be completely surprised when the second set of credits run and I realize the show is over for the week. I am left at the edge of my seat, wanting more and being Very annoyed that a week is SO LONG. :)
Even though I am not yet done with the series I so wholeheartedly recommend this to ANYONE who wants to see a really great scifi show with amazing characters, story, art and everything. And I especially recommend this for anyone who might be bored with the anime they are watching and looking for something new or something to give them that spark of joy back that they are missing!
