final scene english subtitles
in the middle of the final scene where cristobal, elisa and dolores are on the bed, cristobal breaks down in tears at one point and says "I'm sorry" twice, then says "I've had a rough day." This got a lot of laughs in the theater (because it was presumed to be an amusing understatement) which felt wrong. If it was intended that way it totally disrupted the flow and feel of the scene and was the only thing in the scene which in any way aimed for comedy. But I suspect it might just have been an appallingly bad translation from the Spanish into English. Can anyone who speaks both (and who can remember the line I'm talking about) say if the original Spanish line is supposed to be lightly comedic?
disappointing film, by the way. started off very promising but seemed to be perenially meandering around looking for a spark to ignite it. gael's performance was pretty great as usual however, and his direction was good too (especially for a first attempt)
