Was Dexter actor being gay a deliberate choice?

Serious question. His unmistakable real life gayness really works his character that is repulsed by intimacy with women, and it seems to work metaphorically for a general repulsion.

I'm not saying that to be gay IS to be weird, but I can see some gay people (especially closeted) feeling they are wired differently and don't fit in -- which is Dexter's feeling all the time.

never heard he was gay, he's currently married to a woman. maybe you mixed that up, because he played a gay character in 'six feet under'?
especially if you ask if it was a deliberate choice wouldn't make any sense.

reply

ok, i did some googling:
https://www.digitalspy.com/showbiz/a870368/dexter-tv-show-actor-michael-c-hall-fluid-sexuality/
still that doesn't make him gay and the creators of dexter surely didn't specifically request homosexual actors for the audition of their show.

reply

Wow, thanks! I don't remember "Six Feet Under." I just see Dexter and think, "oh yeah, I remember he's gay" ha! Interesting the way perception works... :/

reply

He's also an actor. He was playing a gay person.

reply

Frankly it sounds more like he was pandering to the gay audience with that interview. I don't think there has ever been a single photo of him out with another guy, he never even admits to having experienced a homosexual relationship he just flitters around the idea to try and sound more hip to the powers that be in lala land.

Michael Hall is not gay in real life. His breakout role on Six Feet Under was playing a gay man. This has caused a lot of people to make the mistake of believing he really is gay.

reply

Yeah, but my mistake was not seeing Six Feet Under. It was watching Dexter and somehow having my gaydar go off so strongly that I could swear he's gay, ha.

reply

What gaydar...

reply

Mark my words: One day, Michael Hall shall come out as the Gay King of Gaysville. All shall know him as George Michael Hall.

reply

He might be into anything. It is of no importance for his acting.

reply

He was married to Jennifer Carpenter, his costar. She left him when he came down with cancer or shortly after he beat it. Now he's married to another woman.

reply

Wow that's fucked. Leave a guy when he comes down with a serious illness or when he beats it

reply

From what I understand, it didn't exactly go down that way: Michael C. Hall cheated on Jennifer Carpenter, then they later split. but no, it wasn't as horrible as her leaving him when he had cancer. Then again, I don't know for sure if that is the real story either, but legally they were married for two years and as a couple a good time before that.

Wasn't he supposedly having an affair with Julia Stiles during Season 5?

reply

Jennifer Carpenter debunked that story herself.

....what?

As I understand it, some people do choose, but most let nature take its course.

I don't think these words mean what you think they do. For starters, there's nothing in real life showing he's gay, let alone "unmistakable real life gayness". If the guy is gay and hiding it, there's certainly no proof of it.

And Dexter struggled with relationships with EVERYONE, not just women. Hell, he had even less male friends than female.

reply

No, he was born that way. He didn't chose it.
