Why doesn't Dexter ever wear a mask?

Does THIS turn you on?

Why does he need to? He got away with pretty much everything until LaGuerta started sniffing around.

reply

All he would do is draw attention to himself when he's travelling to and from the kill room. He ensures that no kill rooms have cameras so no need for a mask.

~The internet? Is that thing still around?~

I think its just for our benefit...it wouldn't be much 'fun' to watch a show where the main character is wearing a mask for half of each episode.

Works alright in Daredevil.

blending into the crowd is a much better way to not let yourself become suspicious or get caught. anyone will immediately think a masked guy is doing bad stuff. but becos he doesn't when he's doing his crime plus he is actually hired by miami metro...he has a lot for people to give him the benefit of doubt even if he's caught sneaking around someone's house. if you're masked = they call the police..

He probably didn't think he needed one, given that he kills everyone. No reason to wear a mask when your victims never make it out alive.

reply

Because to a serial killer the killing part is intimate. I think Dexter said this himself...so he's never more open than he is when he is with his victim right before he kills. A mask would be a barrier to that.

Real world reason, as opposed to plot reason. The show wants to show the lead actors face as much as possible, and a mask hides the acting. If Dexter were a real person in the real world, yes he would have worn a mask much of the time. Even considering that the people he kills aren't going to be able to report him, so they can see his identity, there are many times that things went wrong that his face being hidden would have helped. When Lumen saw him kill Boyd. If she hadn't seen his face it wouldn't have been a big deal. When people did briefly get away. Sure he caught them, but there wouldn't have been as much worry if he had worn a mask. When the guy in celephane in his trunk got loose and he was chasing him and grabbed him just before he ran in front of Deb and her crew, A. Wouldn't have had to worry about him identifying him if he didn't catch him and wouldn't have had to worry about Deb or crew spotting him, would just need to get away from them. So besides his victims, there is that precaution, just in case a bystander saw him.
Of course that brings up another show reason they didn't have him wear a mask. There would be less chance of him getting caught, and thus less drama. The Lumen story would have ended when he killed Boyd, and just let her out, to go her own way and never see her again.
