Just finished season 5 and..(spoilers)

Season 5 realy sux. Everything that the majority in this board is saying is 100% true. And i loved 1 to 4. I found that i didnt care for the story or the main villain in season 4.

They never explained the back story of Jordan chase or why he and his friends do what they do.

Or what exactly happened in the camp and the Emily connection or why was Emily helping Jordan.

NO big reveal or build up to the Jordan Chase character at all.

Why Quinn was not even trying to piece the dots or even bother to wonder why the person he hired to spy on Dexter suddenly wound up dead.

Except for one laughable scene with the guy that was all taped up lying next to the dentist and Matsuka explaining the probable cause, nothing else came across as funny.

There was a lot of flaws and things that didnt add up. Deb just letting the dexter and #13 go was weak. Its not like her to do something like that at all..

I started season 6 and the first two episodes was just dragging that i fell asleep. Someone pleae tell me that it gets better...

if you did not like season 5 you should drop the show and move on

reply

Just my $0.02, but Season 6 is worse than Season 5, but the show clearly rebounds in Season 7.

Wait a minute... who am I here?

Majority? The majority of this board haven't ever said that S5 is as horrible as you're claiming it is.

They did explain Jordon and why Emily was helping him.

In my reply to your last post I already said that Season 7 is better. It's a return to form, but not quite as good as Seasons 1—4. Season 8 is widely panned by fans, but probably because it was the last season and wasn't satisfying enough to them. I thought it was way better than Season 5 and 6 though.

I think this was done on purpose. They knew they wouldn't be able to top what they had done, 'big bad' wise, after Arthur Mitchell so they made it more about the victims and Dexter's connection to 'saving' Lumen. Jordan certainly wasn't the best antagonist, but this story was way more about Lumen and Dexter's bond than it was about him.

Actually if they would have followed up in season 6 correctly I think that was the proper route to go. Not enough time had been given in 5 for that to really be a key piece yet. It was teased, but dropped. Unfortunately, as they did a lot with Quinn, the writers dropped the ball afterwards.

While it was indeed funny, that's also probably one of the most forced/convenient scenes of the whole season, even more so than...

"There was a lot of flaws and things that didnt add up. Deb just letting the dexter and #13 go was weak. Its not like her to do something like that at all.. "

This one I don't totally buy. I feel they actually earned that scene. Having been close to being a murder victim herself, Deb was slowly changing her ways. She discovered Harry wasn't the man she though he was. She felt like she was destructive to everything she touched. She was a fighter but could relate to the helplessness that the victims of the case felt. Plus it's not like she totally condoned their actions. She told them it wasn't their place to do such things but knew it was probably better off given the nature of the crime.

Unfortunately Season 6 is when the real nosedive in quality began. Season 7 is the better half of the show's quality, but 6 and 8 are the 2 worst easily.

the thing with season 5 is that it had a lot of potential, when I watched it for the first time I thought they did a a good job of giving us villains to follow from trinity. we got a group of raping, torturing murderers and they were kind of creepy.

I like you expected some kind of great back story like why they did what they did, we got that for brian(s1) and trinity(s4), we knew why they killed and I assumed we would get some great creepy back story for the barrel girl gang, especially Jordan.

all we get however is what happened when they raped their first victim not why.

this did seem odd as we are told Jordan used to be called Eugene greer and was a fat kid. I assumed that it would be explained that maybe Jordan was always dismissed by girls, even laughed at and so this resentment grew and he wanted to show these woman how he was in control and that's why he got his friends to rape women and really got off on having control over these woman and the other gang members but nothing was ever explained.

I thought we should have had an entire episode devoted to a flashback of what happened during the gangs youth at camp. it would have also fleshed out characters like boyd, alex and dan and shown us what type of people they were then and before they were killed. it could have made season 5 really memorable.

also I don't think it was a good idea to show very little of each member interacting with each other or lumen, we only see Jordan interact with cole and then once with alex, we never got to see more detail on the dynamic of the group. especially when you see cole who should be the alpha male as he is more domineering and evil to his victims, he is also the strongest physically of the men, he has a military background yet it is Jordan who controls him and the others. I think we should have had some episode that showed us what happened at the camp both during their childhood and with the more recent victims maybe even show lumens kidnap and rape in a flashback

Season 6 I felt was the worst and should have been skipped, because I had picked the twist from the start as most did. Deb should have found out at the end of season 5 about who Dexter was and Quinn should have kept looking at Dexter, season 6 really should not have existed

I really like Season 5, I have some problems with Season 6 (I feel the narrative is slow and plodding and the antagonists a bit questionable, but I still find it watchable), I like the constant energy and tension of Season 7 (Season 6 lacked sizzle to me), and I thought Season 8 was good for the most part, but probably had the impossible task of being great, but I don't think it was.

I don't know how so many people on here seemed to have missed Jordan and his friends back story. It was clearly in the last few episodes of the season..
