African American lives TWO

Since there is no listing for this show, we are posting on this one until there is...

The score was/is absolutely brilliant, magical, haunting.....

I am mesmerized by this series... I do find a lot of generalizing still going on ~ all the whites were 'bad', rapists, etc ~ even the ones who willed that their property be freed upon their death. Because slavery was an economic reality at the time, it was so widespread that even 'good' white people must have owned slaves... and took care of them well. Anyway, I think of this series as a step toward a healing of the past, and hope that it will be. Forgiveness is the first step toward any healing. Because of the widespread European ancestry, it doesn't make sense to hate whites anymore... we are learning more all the time and knowledge is more than power ~ it's freedom from ignorance.

I love this series too, and I'm so glad they are doing another one. I've learned so much. I had no idea that Native Americans enslaved blacks as well and that many former slaves prospered after slavery ended. So funny that Don Cheadle's ancestors each got 40 acres. I guess you should think twice before demanding your 40 acres and mule.

Apparently, when Rutherford B. Hayes ended Federal occupation in the south, the racists took over and they are the ones that gave whites the bad rap.

Wrong, the Chickasaw nation was required by the US government to give their freed men 40 acres. It's a shame that the government didn't hold themselves to the same standards, but they certainly did require the Chickasaw nation to give Don Cheadle's family their 40 acres (in an all black city of former slaves called Wiley, Oklahoma).

Does anyone know when this is being shown on PBS in Chicago? If it's been shown already do you know when it will be replayed. I can't find any information on WTTW Chicago about African American Lives 2 :( And I really wanted to watch this with my family.

I don't care how big slavery was. If you owned slaves, you were a COMPLETE loser.
