The Worst Adaptation Of Superman....Ever !!!

All other adaptations of superman ranging from comic books, cartoons, smallville, films, and even the tv series with Dean Cain and Teri Hatcher, far outshined this GOD AWFUL film. Acting was poor, action wasn't there, and the whole Superman having a kid thing (what the $%£#). Supermans kryptonian biological make up would not allow for him to mate with a human. Its like trying to breed an elephant with a duck, now as funny as that image is, it just wouldn't happen. Lex Luthor was great, a great copy of the joke Lex Luthor played by Gene Hackman in the early films. Whats the problem, the "Superman animatd series" Lex and the "Smallville" Lex seem to have nailed his character right on. So why a movie company with all its resources and cash decided to poop all over him i don't know. Where the hell is LuthorCorp/LexCorp? Instead we have a Lex who sleeps with dying old women to pinch their cash. Why does Lex surround himself with clowns, you'd think a man of Lex's intelligence would prefer the company of more educated people. The scene in which superman stops the plane crash was completely ripped from "Superman Animated series - The Last son of Krypton". It even has superman gripping hold of the plane an then part of it snaps off in his hands, thats exactly what happens in the cartoon. Bryan Singer should've sacked this off and done x-men 3, but he didn't, so we're left with two clownshoes films.

This was two steps below crap.I've had a more enjoyable time watching people run for the last subway train on a Friday night! I couldn't stay awake!

Lois smoking? WTF!

The CGI Superman flying up in the clouds at the end. That was embarrasing.Did they gamble the budget away in Vegas?

I have yet to make it all the way to the end of this movie. It's been on cable for months and it is one of the most boring movies I've ever seen.

Um....I suggest you re-watch Superman:The Movie. Lois was smoking there, too. And since was a semi-sequel to that film and to Superman 2....

brian singer must be the biggest moron on the planet. How you could he take one of the oldest and most popular comic book characters in the world and mess it up is beyond me. There are so many superman stories the movie practicaly wrote itself. singer is an idiot. The worst part of the story is that he will be back to direct the sequel. :(

This appears to be a comment on the film. Unfortunately IMDB does not clearly say whether a page deals with a film or a game. Why not write the simple word 'game' after 'genre', instead of 'action' which could be anything!

Yes... because parts 3 and 4 were already *such* classics...

You're an idiot. Those two animals are entirely different species. Lois and Superman are not

Although Superman is kryptonian, he is essentially from a humanoid race. Think back to thousands of years ago in their universe, how did kryptonians who look identical to earth humans get to Krypton? They are in theory part of the same race, both humans, both belonging to the same mother race.

I believe whatever doesn't kill you simply makes you...stranger.

3 and 4 were cash cows for the Salkind family, who, after making one great film, trashed the rest of the efforts because they had met their financial obligations. Therefore the budgets were cut for the two sequels, not including Supe-2 which was an extension of the first film.

Well they had thier work cut out for them. Smallville is still on TV and I still remember Lois & Clark and the Chris Reeves movies. All this makes it pretty hard to redefine Superman. I did'nt like Lois & Clark at first. I couldn't see Dean Cain as Superman because I had grown up with Chris Reeve. I only started to see Tom Welling as Superman when Clark Kent left High School.

I didn't like this film at first. Couldn't get my head around Brandon Routh. But I've watched it a couple of times on Sky and it has grown on me. They're making Superman more human. Not sure where they're going with Cllark Kent though. I think the sequels will be great if they allow for further character development and more back story. They should wait for Smallville to end first. Give us a bit of breathing space.

jeez... It wasn't THAT bad...

Yeah, I agree I really have no idea why you are all so angry.

First - these is a SEQUEL, not a full reboot. This movie is supposed to come after Superman II (negating Superman III and IV; and anyone who defends those over this movie is unequivocally stupid).

Let's see - Lois smoking... well that's been in the series since the first movie, Clark/Superman discourages Lois from smoking but it's her dirty secret habit, actually I don't think it was even a secret in Superman or Superman II/II: RDC.

Lex not having LexCorp/LuthorCorp - Lex has been to prison and broken out what, twice? Who knows what money he has owed over time in damages, court costs, etc. Besides, I don't think Lex ever even was that legitimately rich in the films, his entire goal is always power, more specifically land; more of a con-man really.

What was so bad about Brandon Routh's Superman? He is the same model for Superman, essentially, that Christopher Reeves was. He's not the huge, hulking Superman of the comics or animated series(s) incarnation(s). Also picture Christopher Reeve's Superman after leaving Earth and being completely alone for years searching for his home that isn't there. Pretty depressing to be by yourself for years in itself, add the disappointment of the entire search being fruitless. Yeah, he probably wouldn't be exactly as exciting and charismatic as he was before as Superman and Clark was always the bubbling, clumsy, timid fool when it was Reeves too. Routh as good of a job carrying on Superman as anyone else would have.

Superman bearing the child with Lois - remember how in Superman II Lois and Clark had sex? Yeah, her "Night with Superman." Well, if you really want to argue for or against the metaphysical possibilities of Superman conceiving a child with a human you can go ahead but really there's no way to truly justify an outcome against any other, being that Superman doesn't truly exist. I mean I could argue that they copulated while Superman was human but since the child still inherited his DNA he inherited everything but one could also argue that Lois couldn't bear Clark or Superman's child; there's infinite possibilities. And to pretend that Superman has never had any offspring throughout the comics history is either just a boldfaced lie or one being very naive. Superman has had children, clones, doppelgangers, etc throughout the comics, films, and animated series(s).

Superman Returns wasn't the best film they've had but it's certainly not the worst and it's really not that bad. I'd say the scene with Superman and Lex on the Kryptonite Island was the most sadistic scene in any of the films. Lex has his men beat the *beep* out of him while he's damaged, then it's not enough just to kill him, he has to make sure he won't return - ever. Stabs him in the back with the kryptonite splinter and breaks it off, that was intense; just imagine getting your ass kicked by Kumar. Was it all about the action like Iron Man, Incredible Hulk, or Batman Begins/Dark Knight series? No, but that doesn't really seem like what they were going for.
