Hidden jokes in kickin it old school

Did any one realize at the beginning of the movie when Justin's parents are in his hospital room that one of the machines in the background is the Flux Capacitor that powered the time machine in Back to the Future(which came out in 1985, a year before justin went into a coma). Also when Justin is having his birthday party at the chimichanga place that the logo on the wall, the poster, and the door with the chimichanga with guacamole on his head standing next to two avacados looks... strange. If you go back and look at it you'll get what i mean.

When I googled "Google" it tore a hole in the space-time continuum.

Also, when Alan Ruck, who played Cameron Frye in Ferris Bueller, talks to the parents when Justin is still in his coma....he says something like "medical bills can be very expense....god knows I'm still paying for that Ferrari" clearly a reference to Ferris.

Also, in several scenes of break dancing there are some moves "borrowed" liberally from Ozone and Turbo in Breakin' and Breakin' 2.....more of a homage of course.

HOLY CRAP i knew that doctor looked incredibly familiar. thanks man. :)

I'm watching the movie for the first time right now...and I've noticed alot of really funny 80s references, some hidden, some more blatant...this movie is alot more clver and humorous than i expected going in

reply

Actually, the connection to Breakin' is a lot closer than that.

The choreographer for Kickin' It was none other than Adolfo 'Shabba-Doo' Quinones.

reply

Uhh...actually, the connection is A LOT closer than THAT.

Chris McDonald, who played the father, was the STAR of "Breakin'". I was the only one who caught that when we were watching it, and that is not something I am particularly proud of.

reply

he was not by any means the star of breakin, he just played Kellys agent in the first one, the most noticeable of moves from Shabba doo are the Chinese lockers at the end, there moves were exactly like his especially the move where you kick each leg out to the side, whil moving towards the right.

reply

Pretty sure Shabba Doo did the choreography for this movie.

reply

AND...Chris McDonald who starred in Breakin' also starred Goose McKenzie in Grease 2.
I realise that has absolutely nothing to do with this movie, I just think it is friggin hilarious.

reply

na i think that was more a joke about perspective and how the doctor has to worry about paying off a car while they have to worry about paying off their kid being alive

reply

Laloshrif, it was definetly a Ferris Bueller reference.

Alan Ruck played Dr. Fry(e) in this movie. He played Cameron Frye in Ferris Bueller's Day Off. In that movie, he got pissed and destroyed his dad's Ferarri. Hence the reference to the Ferarri in Kickin' It Old Skool.

The Doctor Frye/Ferrari reference gets me every time

The chimichanga wasn't meant to be subtle, it's meant to be thrown in your face
