I love this movie! What a great creepy independent horror movie

Really, I can't get enough of this movie. Despite the low budget it seems to do everything right. My true love in the horror movie world is haunted house stories, and there are certainly not enough good ones out there. So I was pleasently surprised to find this one. First off, the atmostphere is perfect and very creepy. I love the house, it is funny that it was the directors place at the time because to me it was perfect. All the outside shots of the house and the teh shots of the attic window are creepy every time. The two unknown actresses were perfect and completely adorable. The actress playing the main character was so good at being cute one minute, and then creepy the next. I love how she got creepier and creepier throughout the movie. And I think I'm in love with the sister. Anyays, thumbs way up, dont' be fooled by the saw rip off cover, this is the real deal and shows you dont' need a ton of money to make a scary movie. It all flows and comes together so well I think I could watch this every week and not get tired of it. Congradulations to all involved and keep up the good work. Who needs those lame Hollywood movies, keep great independent horror alive!

I have to agree, it was very well done. I just watched it last night on DVD and there were several moments when I did actually jump. I truly enjoyed this film and again agree, keep independent horror alive.

I just watched this movie. I think this was an awesome little supernatural movie. Classic spooky with a modern twist.Totally unexpected. Not sure how it was that the little boy ended up the way he did in the end.The two actresses were so adorable.Any way thumbs up independent makers!

I agree - it had been sitting on my shelf for ages but I'm glad I finally watched it. Really good low budget supernatural film.

The build up to the posession is great and the actresses can actually act as well as look good!

The ending was odd but predictable that his spirit had transferred to someone else.

I wonder if the kid is now tortuing people in the chair part 2!

Please do not give the powers-that-be the idea of doing a sequel. This was okay but a sequel is unnecessary.

That's right! Da heck wid big bugit Hollywood stardom. Critics are jist jelus that OLD PEOPLE kant do independent horror movies. Canada also has Hamilton, Ontario's Melanie Orr, director of "The Devil' Mercy" and "Grindstone Road". And Winnipeg, Manitoba's "The Messengers"! You try working a decade as a TV script supervisor. Maybe after years doing subtitling of programs at your local cable TV station, the CBC will give you your first job. You'll never have to boast about hobnobbing with the stars at film festivals. "Saw" had sequels, didn't it?

I agree, this was really pretty good. Caught it at a bar tonight (!) with the sound off, but the actresses impressed me (especially after seeing the tail-end of the previous "scary" feature, "Mortuary"). A lot of the images/ideas are also used in "Paranormal Activity"...that's kind of why I came to IMDB, to see which came first!! "PA" might be ultimately more successful--this one crams a lot of ideas into one sort of over-the-top package--but *The Chair* really was an odd and pleasant surprise.

reply

I actually thought Mortuary had some potential there were parts where the dead bodies were actually creepy but it fell flat badly.

The possession angle of it was sort of dumb but oh well. Still pretty good.

I love horror and independent movies but this was one of the worst movies i've ever seen.

There's something wrong with Esther.

I must be in the minority on this film- I didn't like it. It wasn't god-awful where I couldn't finish it but I do not feel it is as superb as people make it sound. The acting was very horrible, and I couldn't help but get frustrated at the sister not calling the cops after running from the house or after she gets a call in the field from the kid in the chair- she had a cell phone- it'd take 30 seconds and save some deaths. I just couldn't like it because people (the non-schizophrenic ones) didn't behave rationally. An interesting concept but I just didn't enjoy it.

reply

she didn't call the cops because they would take her sister away while she was possessed with that serial killer's spirit. the cops would have never believed her. she believed she could remove the spirit and everything would have been over without her sister ending in prison or the mental hospital.

reply

There was a death that 'someone' had to pay for so someone was probably going to prison.
