Lovely, sad, well made movie

I really appreciate this movie, and can't help wondering why John Cusack was not nominated for an Oscar for it. Of course, I guess this came out when they were still doing fewer best actor nominations. I don't remember what the field was like that year; chances are there were quite a few worthy nominees. Still, I think Mr. Cusack was excellent in this. And, anyway, such awards are fundamentally pretty silly. But I think we, as audiences, enjoy seeing someone we really think did a great job, get rewarded and respected for it. Most serious actors don't put a lot of importance on awards, deep down, thrilling as they may be.

Multiplex: 100+ shows a day, NONE worth watching. John Sayles' latest: NO distribution. SAD.
