Wish it was more Fellini (maybe spoiler)

As a young, single New Yorker woman, I cringed throughout this film. The dialogue was terrible and the story was so obvious, because it is to true to single life in New York City. So familiar, so pathetic, and so seriously sad at times. SO extremely autobiographical for every woman in New York City, cannot tell you how many times I have had those exact same thoughts, conversations, and circumstances.

However, there were parts of me that felt that the character should have evolved on her own such as Cabiria did in Nights of Cabiria. It also really reminded me of Hysterical Blindness in many ways.

I don't know why she allowed Julian be her key to empancipation instead of herself - and that is what disappointed me the most. Nights of Cabiria and Hysterical Blindness were so unforgettably SAD, but by the end the character came to terms with their so-called "sadness" and realized magical things may not be possible, although life does go on.

This ending was romantic, sweet, whatever, but too much Garden State than something more realistic or transformative and cinematic. But then why, after 85 minutes of sheer realistic depictions of NYC dating, should it have been realistic...why not some magical coming trues of hoping and wishing...

Anyway, all in all, I would watch this movie over and over and over and over again, why? Because no one could have played these roles better than Parker Posey and Gena Rowlands, and Drea rocked as well. Parker Posey is the queen of NYC and she so had this role down pat.

She was brilliant and brought an otherwise pathetic, boring, friendless character to LIFE. No part of this film was stupid, I just say the dialogue was silly b/c it was so scarily REALISTIC. If you've been single in New York, you've heard it all 100x over from the married friends, rockstar one-night stands, anxiety, foreign lovers, what have you. I don't know what it's like in other cities, but if you have lived as a single woman in New York City, then you totally can click with this film from the opening scene to the end.

Well if the Julian thing is just a passing moment, she can still call Guy when she gets back to town!
