Wolverine and Mystique...a interesting idea?

SPOILERS (possible for a couple of eps)

So one of the major twists in this show from established canon is the revelation in the episode 'Stolen Lives' that Mystique and Wolverine were in a relationship way back during their Team X days. Apparently, James helped Raven escape from the Weapon X facility just before she was forced to receive genetic enhancements of some sort. Of course, in the present day, Wolverine didn't remember any of this because of his mind-wipe, and Raven refuses to tell him about their shared past claiming he's no longer 'the man she knew'.

Quite frankly, I thought this was a pretty cool idea. After all, Wolverine and Mystique are both ageless characters with long and mysterious pasts so it makes sense that they may have crossed paths years, perhaps even decades, before. And as for their having a relationship-it definitely resulted in an interesting dynamic between them. Mystique having been a potential Weapon X test subject also went a long way towards explaining her motivations for becoming a mutant terrorist-the fact that she clearly remembers (unlike Wolverine) how mutants were being used and abused as weapons by human governments, which strengthened her resolve to cause their downfall.

Anyone else felt this was a good idea?

I loved this approach to the characters and it was very unique direction to go in. I really wanted to see where it would have gone had we got a second season.

Just finished 'Stolen Lives' (been watching the show for the first time in the past few days). I have to say, I loved the idea but, from your post, it sounds like it wasn't explored more (see nothing more happened after 'Stolen Lives' anymore). I've seen the X-Men movies and X-Men: Evolution. I saw the X-Men Animated Series from the 90's when I was a kid, but I don't remember much of it. I've never read the comics (comicbooks aren't very popular where I'm from), but I've always loved these characters since the first X-Men cartoon. The Mystique and Wolverine storyline in 'Stolen Lives' was definitely a breath of fresh air. From the movies, Evolution, and even in this reimagining, it's always about "X-Men vs. Brotherhood," or "Kelly vs. sly Magneto," or Jean Grey becoming Phoenix, etc., that's why I thought this was very refreshing (especially because Wolvie's Weapon X flashbacks have always been just about him. It was nice to see a very familiar face -- someone who's very active in the current timeline, like Mystique. Sabretooth isn't counted because I hate him to tears).

Can't stand Sabertooth either.

LOVED it!! They have been my OTP for a while. I really was hoping we'd see more if this series was continued.

I loved the idea of her being in Weapon X and Wolverine helping them escape. They have a past and it's just recently being explored.
