The true reason this show got cancelled....

Theres not another X-Men movie coming anytime soon and Wolverine Origins 2 is like two years away probably, hence the publics interest in the characters kind of dwindles somewhat, even with kids, I mean I work retail parttime and the toys for this show were not really selling.

But in truth both DC and Marvel release new cartoons as a way to get people interested in seeing the movies, hence why Iron Man The Armored adventures is getting a second season, Iron Man 2 is going to build up all kind of love for the franchise again.

With DC its the same thing with Batman, Batman Begins comes out, we get The Batman TV series, The Dark Knight comes out, we get Batman the Brave and the Bold.

If Iron Man 2 was not coming out the Iron Adventures would have gotten axed plain and simple.

Whenever Wolverine 2 or the X-Men First class movie is getting ready to come out is when we will get a new show more than likely.

Its all advertising and business in the end.

Another example of this is the Spectacular Spiderman or The Fantastic Four cartoons, both were canceled because their film franchises are either on hiatus or completely dead (as is the case with the Fantastic Four).

I will say Marvel is lucky to have bankable characters to go on and carry shows, all poor DC has is Batman and Superman and thats about it, hence why you don't see a solo Wonderman, Green Lantern, or Flash cartoon, the characters are just not poplular enough to carry anything on their own.

DC is going to try the Green Lantern with Ryan Renolds, and believe me if the film is a hit there will be Green Lantern Cartoon coming out right before or right after the movie, if the movie does not build up a lot of hype however forget about it.

You know It’s so sad but it’s totally true. The movies actually help promote the shows, but remember when X-Men:TAS actually help invigorate the love in XMen back in the day.

But i think WB/DC is willing to take more chance with shows like Teen titans and Legion of Superheroes which mainstream audience wouldn't know anything about but still introducing them without the help live action movies.

Though, Bruce Timm recently said that Green Lantern First Flight and Wonder Woman will not be getting sequel because WB was disappointed with its DVD sales. On the otherhand Batman is getting another straight to DVD movie. He was optimistic though, saying that with the coming of live action GL movie coming it could help in making a sequel or other move based on the lantern.

I read that interview as well. The bigwigs at Warner's are ridiculous for not having faith in these sequels with Timm being involved. Don't they realize how successful every show he's done has been since '92? Ok, those films might not have made as much money as they would've liked but the point of releasing them was to TEST the waters. Now they have established an audience who is familiar with those characters/settings and they should keep building upon the foundations they laid out. A sequel to "First Flight" could be more successful than the first one for all they know. Same with "Wonder Woman", especially if they introduced Donna Troy.

That's another thing, they could be using these films to introduce lesser known characters such as Troy then reaquaint audiences with said characters in movies they are skeptical about, i.e. "The Judas Contract". Though Timm said, the main reason behind the Titans getting pushed back is they didn't want the characters to get redundant since it was close to "Teen Titans" ending around that time.

I still think the best way to handle films with lesser known characters is to attach a Showcase with a well known character. For example, release "Green Lantern: Second Flight" but attach a "Superman" Showcase based on a TPB along with it. Then release "Teen Titans: The Judas Contract" with "The Killing Joke" featured as a Showcase. I know the main purpose of the "Showcases" is to focus on lesser known characters but it could easily work the other way around. Tagging "Bats" or "Supes" in the corner of a Green Lantern, Wonder Woman or even a Green Arrow realease would definitely peak the interest of fans flipping through DVD's at stores/online.

Sundance:"I'll go"
Butch:"This is no time for bravery, so I'll let ya."

I agree with the opening. You got to forgot mention "Legion of Superheroes" which featured Superman. That series started around the time "Superman Returns" was about to hit theaters. Even though the show was awesome they canceled it after two seasons.

reply

At least LOSH had a semi-sensible ending, after the whole Brainiac 5 turns evil thing. W&TXM had so much more promise.

reply

Disney don't want another studio making a show about it's characters. The studio own the design rights so hence no series 2.

Ithas very little to do with the films.

There will be another x-series.

LOSH can canned cause it was crap and the team is out of date and very naff.

reply

Surely Disney would be making some money out of W&TXM if it continued?

reply

The show sucked. No one liked it. Thus, it was canceled.

Fact: 31.5% of IMDb users wanted Avatar to win Best Picture.

No one liked it? You've clearly been talking to the wrong people.

That and he's a hypocritical troll. Zombiehax bashes anyone who complains about the Resident Evil movies, but when it comes to non-DCAU and non-90s stuff, he does the same thing, ignoring that in the comics, various artists and writers have had their own takes. Heck, even Bob Kane and Denny O'Neil said something along the lines of every take being valid in regards to Batman.

Worse, he actually bashed people who did like them and ignoring the fact that the RE movies really did screw up characters from the game and screwed them over for a Mary-Sue.

Oh please. You have been stalking me on IMDb for quite some time trolling every single post i make.

Fortunately for my entertainment, every series is different. Combining the DC, Capcom and Marvel universe and comparing them side by side does not work. These are different universes, with different characters and different styles of writing.

Using a character from the Resident Evil games and comparing them to such an iconic character such as Storm who has so much character development truly depicts the little character appreciation for development you and many others have.

The point is - this show was terrible. I'm not going to debate my position for the 100th time, I have already declared my position and explained it numerous times, pointing out the hundreds of flaws this show had.

X-Men: Evolution & Wolverine & The X-Men both took EXTREME creative liberties with their shows. The difference between the two shows, is the writers and producers of EVO cared about the characters enough to pay attention to the personality and morality of each character in the Marvel universe and translate it to the show.

Wolverine & The X-Men, was completely different. Now as I stated before, I won't go into detail, I have fledged out the hundreds of flaws in this show time and time again. For the majority of characters in this show the only trait they had in common with comic book counterpart was their powers. I did not recognize Storm, I did not recognize Cyclops, I hardly recognized Xavier, and the list just keeps going. The characters were dumbed down to pathetic paper thin personalities that my 6-year old cousin could come up with.

The show could not and did not catch on with fans. How can it? I recall when the show was about to premiere this whole forum was outraged when the show was announced to be 'WOLVERINE & The X-Men'.

In addition, the show was banking on the success of 'X-Men Origins: Wolverine' which was pirated to death and is declared as the worst movie of the X-Men series. Even worst than X3: The Last Stand, and that was a poop show!

So...You make a show based off the failure of your movie which absolutely no one liked...With characters that have absolutely no relation to their actual origins or personality from the comics or other TV shows...With insanely boring storylines that do not surpass some of the lowest rated fanfiction...

We can be delusional and pretend this show was excellent and surpassed the 90's X-Men and EVO and that it stood a chance and was only cancelled by the big bad meanies in the corporation.

Or we can all admit this show was horrid and we're glad it was scrapped so we can see a new and better X-Men series

And you can go ahead and be delusional for thinking that.
Whether you liked it or not, the show was doing well and they were in production for a second season before the cancellation (if the show was so unpopular, they wouldn't even have announced one).
And as I mentioned before, the exact same thing happened to Spectacular Spider-Man, which seems to pretty much be considered as the best Spider-Man adaptation ever produced (if not, the best in recent years). They were also in talks for another season, before, like WATXM, the show was cancelled.
Fact is, both series were not able to reach an agreement with their finances and companies, so both of them were ended.

You can believe that they ended this show because it was terrible, if that helps you sleep at night, but you'd be wrong. And you'd also be VERY wrong in saying that everyone hated it.

Now, no-one is saying this series was the best X-Men series ever made (far from it), but it was decent enough and I could handle the changes to some of the characters (which, for most characters, were quite minor compared to certain other incarnations)

And I'm not taking any bets here... but I wouldn't be at all surprised if you started complaining about the next X-Men series to come along either.

not wading through tons of giant posts but just wanted to say as a comic book collector of X-Men for over 20 years i thought this show was pretty bad...there were a few episodes that were OK but personally i didnt like it cant say im sad to see it go...

I'm more or less indifferent. I liked the show, but it wasn't that good in some parts.

Personally I would've liked a second season just to see Deadpool (who they announced would be voiced by Nolan North as a reprisal from Hulk Vs) if for nothing else.

reply

Correction. YOU didn't like it.
And this show was cancelled at the same time (and presumably for the same reasons) as Spectacular Spider-Man. I guess no-one liked that one either then?

I grew up watching X-men TAS. I loved that show as a kid, and I'm just thinking back on how much money I've spent since then on X-men games, toys and merchandise and it adds up. They should not have canceled Wolverine and the X-men. It really was the best X-men cartoon since TAS and, long-term, it would probably earn them a greater fanbase and hence more money than that mediocre X-men 3 movie.

reply

From what I understand there was some financial dispute along with copyright issues. Disney would have had to pay Lionsgate to give them the series, and they didn't want to spend that money. It's also been rumored that the higher ups wanted to focus on the proposed Avengers animated series.

I'm sure there will be a new X-Men cartoon in two years or so. The X-Men are much too big to be MIA for long.

reply

maybe now the first class movie being produced, maybe they will do another series, well heres hoping.

reply

I hear Warren Ellis is already hard at work on an X-Men anime style series.

reply

I got really into this cartoon. It was not very kiddy and real with the characters. I was pretty upset to find out it got cut. I hope the same crew can do another show. The apocalypse story looked interesting.

reply

Yeah I haven't thought about this but unfortunately this seems true.

The networks needs to know that their are also many true fans who follow the series whether or not their is a big budget movie or something.

reply

ALL THAT was a long time ago now and those X-MEN movies have already been done!!! So now I'm trying to see if I can get NETFLIX to produce a second season of WATXM
