Very Much Like the First Episode of the Twilight Zone

I remember watching the first episode of the Twilight Zone some 47 years ago, when I was six years old. It was about a man who wandered through a town where the people had all disappeared. It was really twisty, where one minute you thought you had it figured out and the next minute you were as lost as the man in the town.
The first episode of MoSF was very similar. You thought you knew what it was about and then you discovered it was about something else entirely. I loved it, it was great.

I think the show made a sharp political point, attacking conservative politicians who care only about the self-defense of their own nation instead of humanity. This is probably the real reason that ABC buried the show. Remember that ABC is the network that replaced Bill Maher with Jimmy Kimmel, because Maher dared to suggest that people who do terrible things are not necessarily cowards.

It was a truly brilliant story with great performances from Judy Davis and Sam Waterston. The scene where he breaks down at the sheer horror that he has wrought was utterly superb. The wrecked cities were haunting...and the way he kept snapping back to his delusions were kinda reminiscent of 'Teddy' from Shutter Island! LOVED this ep. I can't believe this series didn't last.
